A Little Bit About Me...

I would best describe my method of teaching as a give and take experience. Through diologue, I am able to lead the student through the thought process that will derive the correct answer. Giving bits of information can provoke a new approach to the task at hand. I also feel it is important to individualize each person being tutored, as everyone learns differently. Some learn best through the use of things such as pnuemonic devices, while others may need repitition to effectivily remember the material. Students learn skills by using them in a realistic, subject-specific context, and in a combined way. So they might use other skills taught before such as note taking, highlighting, all in context. The purpose of the skills are stressed, students are taught not just what to do and how, but also why. The students then reflect on how well they used the skills, what gains they were getting and so on, and then they action plan for improvement.
