A Little Bit About Me...

I am hoping to tutor students from k-8th grade because I know I have more than enough qualification to help them succeed. Plus, I have worked as a bible studies and piano teacher at my church with students in that range. I also have enough tutoring and academic experience to be able to tutor these students. For ~3 years I was a tutor for students learning English as a second language (for I speak English and Spanish) at Reedley College. I helped them with basic reading, writing, pronunciation, grammar, etc., much like what students within k-8th grade learn. Furthermore, I acquired a well rounded education by earning an Associates in General Studies, and this helped me become knowledgeable in a wide array of subjects. This, I'm sure can help me be an excellent tutor for these students as well. Currently, I am earning a Bachelors in Philosophy/Religious Studies, and am applying for a dual ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

"Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire." This quote by William Butler Yeats summarizes my philosophy of education. I love seeing students become excited about learning and becoming self-directed learners. Oftentimes, this means that the student takes the lead and I am there mainly to provide encouragement and structure. I try to provide a safe environment for learning. I believe there are no dumb questions and it is OK to make mistakes. I encourage students to brainstorm and think outside the box. I find that many students lack the ability to manage their time efficiently. I work with the student in developing organizational skills. I help the student set up goals with measurable objectibles so he can monitor his progress. When appropriate, I utilize contracts to assist the student in becoming accountable.

I graduated fro Fresno state with my BA in May, 2011. I have completed 2 phases of the multi subject credential program and need one more to obtain my teaching credential. I have been volunteering in many elementary school classrooms for the past 4 years. I currently work in a daycare as the pre-k teacher. I have my own classroom and follow daily curriculum as well as find my own ways and activities to prepare my students for kindergarden.
I believe every child can learn effectively, we just have to find the way that is easiest for them. I am patient and very loving. I love the communication I can have with children. I am very creative and I like to find new ways of teaching. I will do my best to find a way to help every child succeed in school.

My teaching style can be described as casual and comfortable. Students who are having problems understanding certain concepts are better able to grasp difficult ideas when they feel they are in a comfortable environment where they are free to ask questions and discuss their problems openly. My goal is to be informative and helpful, but never intimidating. My style works best with high school students, who describe me as approachable, yet structured.
I began tutoring during my senior year of high school as a favor for a family friend. I soon realized the demand for private tutoring services and began taking it more seriously. While attaining my Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry, I would frequently tutor friends who needed extra assistance. Years of laboratory experience allowed me to gain an understanding of scientific writing styles, and to expand my writing and rese ... read more

I have compiled my experience while working at Sanger Unified School District for a number of years. My first major was Spanish Single Subject, but later changed to Health Education. I taught Beginning Spanish to third through eighth grade students. I later moved on to tutoring English Learner students in various other programs within the school district. I am a native speaker and my husband is a Spanish teacher, so I have access to material and lots of knowledge.
I have always enjoyed teaching, which is the reason I chose to major in an education field. I enjoy working with different age groups. I have a positive and constructive form of teaching. I believe that every child has a specific way of learning and I try to find out what that is. I then gear my curriculum to teach each one in the method they will be the most successful. When I teach in this technique, I know my s ... read more
