More About This Tutor...

I have taught mathematics for over 23 years. In Ohio I taught at a middle school for 2 years and then at an all boys high school for 17 years. At the high school I was the math tutor and worked with the students in all areas of mathematics from prealgebra to calculus. Curently I am teaching at Wallace Rosehill High School in North Carolina. I have been there for five years and teach algebra and precalculus.
I am a high energy type teacher. I like to do creative things to motivate my students and make them realize that learning math can be fun. Since I have tutored for many years I have a lot of patience and understanding for students that have difficulty understanding the material. I believe that anyone has the potential to learn, they just need time and a different approach to master the material. Everyone has different learning styles, it is just a matter of finding what ... read more

More About This Tutor...

In mathematics, I was taught early on that in order to prove something you need three things: 1. facts that are obvious/self-evident 2. relate them in a logical way 3. frame these facts and their relationships inside of a theory Engineering is just applied mathematics. I believe that anyone can do it, at their level; the key for an educator is to have sufficient people skills to diagnose the problem areas a given student might have and then address those in the context of solving a given problem.
During my time at NC State, I worked at the mathematics laboratory for two years. In that short amount of time, I learned as much as I taught. The experience of communicating technical information in a way that is accessible requires a set of skills that, in my humble opinion, will always be in demand.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a licensed high school math teacher with eight years of public high school teaching experience. I have taught algebra I, algebra II, geometry, AP calculus AB, and seventh grade math. I am currently teaching in a private school and have extensive tutoring experience.
As a teacher, I work hard to enable my students to be successful, and I expect them to work just as hard. I enjoy working with my students, and particulary enjoy tutoring as it allows me to really get to know my students and tailor instruction to meet their needs. Most problems can be solved in a variety of ways, and if one approach doesn't work with a student, then I show the student another way. I am patient and a good listener.

A Little Bit About Me...

I like to work through each type of problem step by step creating a blue print of what the student should be doing to solve each type of problem. I then repeat this with another problem of the same type. I like to go through every type of problem like this while they write the steps of how to do the problem down and then try to solve each problem step by step. I like to emphasize that they write neatly so they can see clearly what they are doing and what they have done so they can quickly go back through the problem and check for mistakes.
I have recently graduated from UNCW with a BS degree in chemistry. I have taken mainly math and science classes for the past three years. I have participated in many study groups and helped many other students who were in math and science classes by tutoring them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am graduating from the University of NC Wilmington with a BS in Chemistry and minor in mathematics in May of 2010. I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education, since i came from a third world country where education is not available. so my experience and bachelor degree enable me to gain the understanding in many areas of math and science.
Coming to this country and be able to go to school is very important for me, and i found it very difficult seeing many children not able to go to school because they have not motivation, even if they have the opportunity to go to school and be what they want.I believe education is very import in the 21st century and everybody should go to school and learning new experience and explore the different opportunity available for them, so i would like to help students learn about the value of education and help them gain ... read more
