Each student is different and hence my teaching approach is more on student specific. Teaching and learning are two major components of education; I would say it is a mutual effort. An effective teaching can generate interest in students and can make learning fun. It is very important to get feedback from the students about his/her understanding of the subject. I find pleasure to make a difference in all of my student’s life.
My fascination for math and science started right before high school level, which drove me to have the Ph.D. degree in chemistry. As an Organic Chemist, I know the subject very well and had gained extensive teaching and research experiences at undergrad and graduate levels.

A Little Bit About Me...

I learn visually and like to teach that way. I believe there is a great deal of concepts and memorization in Chemistry. I am not able to memorize all of the subject and would not ask a student to. Instead, explanation and demonstration of the concept, followed by memorization of the rule grants a greater understanding. The rule can then be applied to other areas and is worth much more than a large volume of memorized information. This is possibly more true in the fields of Math and Physics, learning rules and concepts goes a long way. I prefer to patiently explain, draw, or demonstrate the concept at hand then work on problems that further illustrate that concept.

As an undergraduate I had one year as a teaching assistant as a student at Lebanon Valley College,where I also I won the Freshman Achievement Award in Chemistry. As a graduate student, I had four years as a Teaching Assistant in Chemistry. I also tutored students one on one freshman chemistry for no fee. While in industry, I taught sessions in Chemistry as well as Chemical Safety to plant workers having no technical training. In industry I developed strong PC computer skills. I try to tailor my style to the student. Each student I had tutored when I was in college I had basically spoke with them, got to learn what they strong points were, their weaknesses, and areas that needed more base learning. I tailored lesson plans to help fill in their educational gaps, created small weekly assignments, and also helped with their current homework/lesson plan. I believe everyone learns in different ways. Some are more visual, others are more auditory so I tried to not only explain but also show by using whatever tools necessary/applicable (graphs, pictures, charts, etc.)
