My comments on tutoring Biology : I took both Honors Biology in ninth grade and AP Biology in twelfth grade. I received an A in both courses for my hard work and was in the top of my class both years. I mastered the basics from Honors in AP biology. One emphasis my teacher had was to be able to explain the concepts both in writing and verbally so I have become a very effective tutor in this subject area.

Teaching new concepts, practice applying the new material, review, and more practice of the material to solidify the concepts.
I have helped my classmates and have had one official student as of this summer. However, I have learned how to explain concepts so that students dont just memorize, they will gain a thought process and applicable knowledge that will enable them to solve even the most complex problems. Having this mentality of preparation and success will being them to reach their goals.

Biology is one of my top subjects! My degree is in Biology, so I am well versed in many of the aspects that come with this vast topic of study.

Hello! My name is Amanda and I'm an experienced science tutor. I have been tutoring college-aged learners since 2009 at Maria College, where I focus on anatomy & physiology, chemistry, and biology. I received my BS in biology from Siena in 2010, and went straight on to my MSEd in Adolescent Education from St. Rose, where I graduated in 2012. I am certified to teach General Science and Living Environment in grades 7-12. I also have expert knowledge of study skills and how to tailor tutoring to meet each individual student's needs.
My style is very flexible. I understand that some students just need to hear another person tell them the information, while other students require an in-depth discovery of each concept. I can provide both and anything in between to match you or your child's individual learning needs. I am versed in the Cornell Method of note taking, and have many other "t ... read more

Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work. My style is marked with a belief in the student and I encourage them and acknowledge their progress.
I received a technology degree in 1975. Several years later I returned to college to persue a Physics/Mechanical Engineering Degree from SUNY New Paltz and RPI. I was an "A" student in Physics and enjoyed tutoring many classmates. I was a gue ... read more

I enjoy helping students understand the principles they are dealing with, rather than focusing on helping them simply "get the answer" to the problem at hand. My goal is for them to be able to generalize the concept and apply it in different contexts. To develop interest, I seek to discuss related information or similar problems as much as possible. For Physics in particular, this approach is key to providing a sound foundation for future learning.
Most of my career has been spent at IBM, where I built on my Physics background for a broad range of opportunities. I am now seeking to move into a teaching career and plan to start a Masters in Teaching in the Fall of 2009. During my educational development, I taught for three years in undergraduate and graduate school as part of the duties of a teaching Assistant. I have tutored secondary school students for the last 5 years in M ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe a good teacher should have the following attributes. First, they should love their respective subject. Second, they should have real world experience that can tie to the lesson of the day. Third, they should understand the needs and desires of their students. Lastly, they must have a firm but fair method of classroom discipline. With the subject of earth science, I have the passion and experience to make a difference in your student's life.
I have BS degrees in education and industrial engineering. I also have an MS Teachers in Geosciences. I have worked for much of my career as an engineer but have also taught earth science at the high school level for two years in the recent past. I have great enthusiasm for the world we live in and the study of earth science. I look forward to working one on one with students that are having difficulty and helping them make the grade.

I have my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Chamberlain College of nursing (online). While working up to 4 per diem jobs, I maintained a GPA of 3.67. In 2000 I worked full time and graduated from Maria College with my Associates of Science in Nursing. I graduated with a GPA of 3.37. Since 2002 I have worked with Paramedic students in an ER setting, trained new nursing hires and worked with nursing students. I would be able to help children in grade school with most subjects. I have experience writing in the APA format. I can help with most nursing topics. I have a wide range of interests, just ask, I may be able to help.
I understand first hand that not everyone learns the same way. I was labeled as “not too bright” as a child. The issue wasn’t my intelligence, it was my learning style. When I am working with someone on a new task/lesson, I ... read more

I recently graduated from Duke University with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a minor in Biology. I excelled in all my courses during my four years there, and as a result I will be attending a very well ranked dental school in the fall. I have a very strong science background, and have taken many courses in Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. I did well in all of these courses, even in a competitive environment. I have tutored Duke students in General Chemistry for the past three years, and their feedback has always been positive.
I have tutored at the college level for three years, mainly because I enjoy doing so. I take pride in helping others understand concepts and do better in school. I'm very easy going during tutoring sessions, and open to students asking questions until they understand the information. I take multiple approaches to explaining concepts if students ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a Junior High Math teacher for more than 20 years.I also have taught returning Empire State College students in Basic Math and electronics. In my last position, I created "Striving for Excellance in Math". It was a combination of daily and weekly drills and activities. I currently am working for EVI. They score all of the NYS Assessment exams. I therefore know what is required to exceed the standards required by NYS. I have also taught Math9,Course 1,and Math A. I feel I am therefore well versed in all that is required for 9th grade math!! I have never had a student fail the regents.
I left full time teaching 3 years ago. I was the whole math dept. I taught 6,7,8,9th grade math in a private school. I did not realize how much I would miss it. I sometimes day dream about how I would teach a certain topic a different way. I have always thought that teaching is magical. Wh ... read more

My teaching style is fueled by my personal enthusiasm for academics. For instance, my passion for math and science embodies how I approach the world. I think of life on a molecular level. In other words, where many get frustrated with complex theories as they become increasingly abstract, I can easily visualize the intangible and relay concepts in more graspable terms that most teachers and textbooks cannot provide. I bring humor and light-heartedness to abstract subject matter, thus making critical-thinking less critical and just thought. Having conversations about how science informs the world is an important part of my livelihood. Furthermore, rather than conversing with colleagues, sharing my knowledge with those who have difficulty understanding subjects where I excel, brings me such gratification. Knowing that I have helped someone else understand an aspect of the world even just a ... read more

What motivates me to teach is the desire to instill a passion for learning into the next generation of students. Learning abilities of students are often related to their educational backgrounds and personal motivations. I exercise the policy of responsiveness to personal learning styles and the needs of my students by effectively communicating with them during classroom discussions. This becomes particularly important in the case of a few weaker or some international students, who need additional help, but hesitate to ask for it. To overcome such physiological barriers, I personally reach out to these students during office hours or after class meetings with them, and try to help them to the best of my ability.
From 2009 I participated in instructions in chemistry, physics and biology for high school students to prepare them for high school science Olympiads at St. Mark High Schoo ... read more
