My personal style of learning is to learn by doing. I get my students involved in any process and get them to actually do the work so they learn it from experience, not just reading about it and taking for granted they know what is going on. Seeing the steps in action and seeing the final result brings a sense of accomplishment, which helps a student learn the correct way of doing whatever it is they are trying to learn.

My experience comes from many years of Teaching, Training, and Coaching. My first teaching experience come form Douglas County as a substitute teacher mostly for the special education program. Next I have worked for Fairfax County Schools and for Fairfax County Program called SACC. My years in Richmond were with Chesterfield County Schools and Club Z Tutoring. I graduated with honors, cum laude, with a B.S. degree in Biology. Through out junior high and I high school I have tutrored fellow students in the area of math, from basic to geometry, trig and calculus. I majored in computer engineering because of my love for math but I knew all the time that I should have been teaching. I believe that learning needs to be fun, but that students need, and most of the time want, structure in their classrooms. I believe that learning needs to be relevant to students. They need to know why and where in their lives they will need or be using what they are being taught. I use a variety of instuctional methods while teaching (lecture, discussions,group activities, etc.) so students stay interested and because every student learns differently. I believe there needs to be mutual respect between the students and teachers. The classroom should be a place where students enjoy learning, feel safe, and are respected as individuals.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a passion to teach. I have been lucky enough to teach both children and adults. Before moving from Delaware to Atlanta, GA I taught kindergarten. It was rewarding and very fulfilling. When I lived in Atlanta I was fortunate to find an ESL position teaching children and adults. I was hooked! I've been able to utilize all my skills that I have learned from the University of Delaware, past job experiences and new job experiences.. A move to Alabama three years ago didn't change the fact that ESL is what I loved teaching. Presently, I'm teaching part-time at Gadsden State Community College College.
