Licensed Teacher. Highly qualified K-8.

My experience has taken me across grade levels as well as across the world. In college, I studied educational methods, theories and philosophies as well as human development. During this time, I participated in classroom practicums (aiding with individual/ small group instruction) and then eventually student taught full-time for 1st and 5th grade. Over the summers, I worked abroad in Germany and Italy with children on military bases for a program called Camp Adventure Youth Services. I provided educational and recreational services for children and youth from ages 5-11. During the academic years, I worked at after school programs helping with homework for the Boys and Girls Club based in Corvallis. While earning my Master's in Scotland, I worked for a similar program at a private school called George Heriot's with children and youth from ages 5-11. Once, I returned back to Eugene, I earn ... read more

Skilled teacher and writer dedicated to your success

I taught high school English, journalism and speech for more than 30 years before retiring in 2013. I also taught a year in middle school, a year in community college and worked in administrative positions at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. I have worked with students at all levels, from remedial to advanced placement and worked in an alternative high school setting. I have received training in the scoring of advanced placement literature exams and am a published writer. I also have taught SAT prep classes.
I like to get to know my students and build a strong relationship with each one. I work to connect the subject matter to their lives and to the real world. I set high standards, but understand that each student will work toward those standards at his or her own pace and in his or her own style.

History and English: NOT BORING! RELEVANT!!

As a recent graduate of the University of Oregon History Department, I have spent the last two years working with peers to enhance their ability to research, comprehend, and explain historical events through writing. This experience includes courses in Grammar and Literature as well as History of both the U.S. and the world. With a string of A-grades at the 400-level, I believe I am now prepared to help others find similar success by following some simple advice and encouragement.
Motivation. Hard work is made even harder when we don't enjoy the subject; for example, History can easily become boring and impossible to follow for young, energetic minds. When these events are brought to life, however, and made personally relevant to the student as part of our shared past, we may inspire curiosity which is the prime quality of a young scholar. Grammar and literature can also be tir ... read more

I graduated with my master's three years ago, so I haven't had any actual teaching, but I have tutored for the community college where I live. I tutored essay writing and some math. I was also certified as a tutor through our community college. In college I taught certain subjects, but just for part of certain classes. I am presently tutoring on line also.
As an older student I was very driven to achieve a high level of excellence in my education, hardly ever missing a class. I earned my bachelor's degree from Oregon State University, taking mainly writing and literature. In my master's program I did a lot of writing classes and I focused mainly on publishing, and subjects such as editing and grammar. Instead of taking Spanish, I took statistics. This was very hard and I passed all three math classes after not having any math for many years. I also did some technical writing and cr ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taken many classes and seminars regarding personalities and teaching styles. I believe this is why when one of my daughters, now 16 years old, was having trouble in the third grade I pulled her and her twin sister and home schooled them through eighth grade. They now go to Santiam Christian where they excel - in fact the Admissions Coordinator told me that she has never seen kids do so well coming from a home school environment. It is my belief that when teaching you need to discover what teaching style best suits that individual and structure the teaching in that way. I have taught in Sunday School, our local Home School group and tutored my nephews when they were younger.
My name is Julie.I am the elder sister.Linda has ALWAYS love kids. From baby dolls to working in the church nursery at the age of about six (in fact, any time she came up missing on Sunday mornings we kn ... read more

I have over 20 years experience in training individuals in materials related to their employment & career preparation. I've also worked as a CASA worker in Idaho and had to prepare reports for the courts/judges review to determine placement of at risk cildren. I was a career information counselor for Marsing High School, Idaho, for grades 7th through 12th. I've also spent many years writing research papers, business correspondence, business plans, articles for newspapers as a writer, editor and publisher, both as an employee, owner and contract writer and the mother of an autistic child.
I would say that my style is one of direction. Helping students find answers, teaching them how to research for the answers and developing paths of choices to determine which one to take and determining the outcome of that choice or the alternatives. I love watching the face of a child when they realize that they have mastered a word that previously eluded them. When I tutor a child in reading, I will ask them questions about what they like to learn or how they like to have the teacher teach them and then base my tutoring off their answers. This way, the child feels involved in the process as well as gains the knowledge in a manner that feels correct for them to learn. I have had much success with tutoring children this way. I love the chance to make a child a reader.
Since I was a young girl, the English language has been as important to me as breathing. A Little Bit About Me...

I became a tutor at the request of a professor, and this work has led me to discover the joys of teaching. I love assisting students with reading and writing and helping them to find in themselves ability, confidence, and enthusiasm. I am passionate about working with students to find methods of studying that work for them, as well as helping their academic work by addressing other issues such as social pressures, learning disabilities, and lack of motivation. I am committed to giving my students a new-found sense of strength and self reliance, as well as being a mentor and friend.
Due to my love of reading and writing I have chosen to pursue a degree in the Classics at Whitman College. In 2007 I was asked by a professor to privately tutor another student in Latin. I have a passion for higher education and helping young men and women reach their academic goals. I facilitated several ethics courses at Gonzaga University and helped tutor fellow graduate students in research methods and statistical analysis at Oregon State University. My teaching style is focused on the individual student. I realize that not all students are receptive to the same teaching style, as a result I am a flexible teacher who is willing to change my approach if the student is not responding positively to my initial teaching techniques.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children. I have helped with pre-K and grade school children with an emphasis on working with Autistic children. All children can succeed in school given the right tools; just because they do not get the idea from one method does not mean that they won't get it from a different method. I think that all children can learn regardless of age, learning ability or other status, if given a chance.
I spent two years teaching and tutoring Autistic children. I aided in routine skills, verbal skills and dealing with change. I have worked with two different children on these skills. I also have extensive skills in writing and researching for my research papers. I also have great knowledge of APA format and can write an essay in no time flat.

A Little Bit About Me...

I like to use visual learning methods as well as memorization and recognition methods. Seeing a diagram is sometimes not enough. Actually trying to simulate a diagram/problem on your own after seeing it once promotes better understanding. As pertaining to math, depending on the level of the learner, I would do some problems together first and then let them work through it and find out where they run into problems. I always write out the problems along with the learner. I believe that everyone has the potential to learn all subjects as long as they have the motivation and determination to learn. Sometimes a positive and fun mentor is a great way to learn a difficult subject.
