I have a vety high IQ, but am also very accessible.

I have tutored off and on since high school, and have been a substitute teacher for all grades for the last six years. I excel at spelling and grammar, and had a classical education in literature, Latin and Greek. Because of this classical education, I have been able to teach in-depth,and to share the etymology of many English words with students and teachers alike. I graduated from college one year early, having tested out of all my general studies, which freed me to take independent studies classes, such as in Chaucer and Middle English.
I engage the student with questions and illustrations. I am big on gentle correction and encouragement. I know the difference between Latinized English and real English, and I share this with my students. I know grammar is something one can't prescribe, just describe.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since 1982 I have been involved in chartering three new Missouri State banks. These positions have required me to research legal requirements for offering new products to our customers. In addition, I have trained new employees in a classroom-type setting regarding new and existing products, accounting and customer service.
My teaching style is very much give and take, question and answer, in order to ensure that the participants are involved and up to speed. Until the student understands step 1 it is useless to proceed to step 2.

I have children who are twenty one, seven, six, four, and two, as well as a granddaughter who is three. No two have learned in precisely the same way, and I have had to use multiple approaches to help them learn. I have also coached teams in five sports. I have spent a lifetime teaching kids to do things they never dreamed they could attain. I know that kids can learn anything they wish, and can become anything they wish.
I am a world class scholar, with roughly 1600 different publishing credits in nineteen distinct academic fields. I have taught more than 130 sections of twenty two different courses in seven different academic disciplines at five different colleges and universities. I do not have any direct experience teaching or professionally tutoring in English. However, I am very proud of my English skills, and I look for opportunities to help others develop theirs. I entered one year of tutoring experience because I believe that I have equivalent experience through assisting others with their class assignments or professional documents. I have considered the idea of taking additional classes to become certified to teach part-time. I received a 35 on the English section of the ACT, and I have excelled in my English courses. Throughout my college career, I have extended my knowledge in this area. I love teaching others what I know about the subject, and I believe I would thoroughly enjoy being a professional English tutor.
When I do teach others about English, I try to understand the way in which they learn. For example, if I were describing the usag ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout high school and college, I performed at an academic level well above average. As a result, I often found myself helping my fellow students. As part of my graduate assistantship at Missouri State, I work in the math tutoring lab several hours a week, tutoring (primarily) algebra and calculus students. I also teach MTH 102, which is approximately equivalent to high school Algebra II. I also have a great deal of experience in history, literature, English, and the natural sciences and have helped other students in these fields in the past.
Although I have only been teaching in a classroom setting for the last two semesters, I have spent a great deal of time teaching friends and fellow students over the years. I am very patient and able to adapt to the student with whom I am working. I am a firm believer that learning, and learning math especially, is not a spectator sport an ... read more
