I absolutely love working with children and will be sensitive to your child's needs and wants, and demonstrate a great deal of patience. I believe that learning should be interesting and as a very creative individual, I am well suited to finding a way to help your child learn in a way that is interesting to them and that they can relate to well. In the past, I've found that in subjects I find difficult, the teacher really does make all the difference, so I strive to make that difference and truly care about the child's success.
My degree in English at Rhodes meant that I studied a wide variety of literature, taking both analytical courses and courses that encouraged me to take what I learned from these writers and apply it to my own writing, further developing my skills as a writer, both creatively and as an analytical thinker. This culminated in my senior year, when I studied li ... read more

My #1 goal is to help each of my students reach his or her ultimate academic potential. Every student has the ability to succeed academically. I believe that children learn best when concepts can be taught/explained to them in their own terms. Once a common ground can be extablished between student and teacher the learning process becomes much easier and the students gain the understanding that ultimately leads to academic stability.
I am a high school business and computer teacher. I have taught for 5 years. I throughly enjoy working with and getting to know my students. I consistently work with students to help them excel both in my course work and in their other classes. In addition to having a strong background in business and computers, I was also a communications major, thus I am confident in my ability to help students succeed in the public speaking and language arts. I have worked with many different types of learners so it is not difficult for me to pinpoint what learning styles they have. As a teacher, it is my job to communicate effectively and conform to a student's unique qualities in achieving academic successes.
I enjoy every aspect of teaching. I began in 1987 as a teacher's aide in Georgia. I was later able to return to college to complete my degree in Elementary Education. I have worked as a preschool teacher, elementary teacher, middle school and high school teacher, and I have tutored in Reading, Math, and Science. Much of my methods are based on what I have experienced through the years.

I believe that one of the best ways to advocate for children is through education, and empowering them on their education journey. I enjoy seeing the transformative process of when a child begins to take pride in their learning and invest in their learning. As an apprentice of the Reggio-Emilia approach, I believe that children are key catalysts to their learning, and growth. As a teacher, I believe in quiet, yet steady guidance, and encouragment, and cultivating growth, through asking engaging open-ended questions, and giving the children, tools, (or languages) whether those be visual, oral, or written tools to reflect both what they are learning, as well as communicate what concepts that they have not yet grasped. I am confident, that in a supportive environment, and with a strong team, a child can reach, and excel beyond their preconceived learning potential, and I am committed to ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

When I teach, I am very nurturing and I want to make sure that my students are fond of the learning process. I like to bring a sense of humor to my classroom and not only provide the best education possible, but also provide an enjoyable learning atmosphere. I like when students are provided hands-on learning experiences and I plan to use them frequently when teaching. I prefer to be a guide and a facilitator instead of ruler when I teach, ensuring that the student and I hold a mutual respect and trust. I am quick to build a good rapport with students and believe that this helps me be an educator who they will remember and will make a difference in their lives.

A Little Bit About Me...

In the classroom I like to find the balance between high energy learning and thoughtful practice. As a tutor I have found that I am friendly and understanding and that these characteristics help students relax and learn. I feel that I am funny, but I have seen my fair share of middle school eye rolls and sighs! My goal is to see children learn and achieve in education and I believe educational progress is something a teacher should see after spending time with a student. I feel that I am a memorable teacher and that I have left a positive impression on each and every student that I have had contact with over the last 10 years.

A Little Bit About Me...

While I had to put my studies on hold for close to a decade because of family concerns, it was during that time that I was able to establish a tutoring business based out of Seattle, WA. I gained valuable experience working with children having many unique learning styles. After returning to school, I earned my degree in Political Science. During my course of study, I learned exceptional grammatical and writing skills due to the numerous papers regard spanning many topics. The culmination was a 50 page Senior Thesis, present for graduation to several members of the University of Missouri @ Kansas City faculty members. For the past 4 years I have been working in the Kansas City, KS Public School system, first as a collaborative paraprofessional and finally as a long term substitute Math teacher. A variety of instructional methods must be used to engage all students in learning. In order to help a child reach his or her potential, a teacher must be willing to acknowledge that student's learning style and work toward improving the child's weaknesses while also enhancing his or her strengths. As a middle school teacher for the past two years, I have discovered that most students learn best and most profoundly when they are allowed to partipate in their own learning instead of just taking orders.
As a student at Grinnell College, I was motivated to achieve at a high level. During my four years of college, I earned a BA in French and Biology. I also spent four months during my third year studying in France, where I lived with a host mother and attended classes at a local university. Currently, I am working toward earning my Master's Degree in Education at the University of Miss ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children, and over my many years of being in school I have witnessed all types of teaching styles. When I began teaching myself, I developed a style that allows the children to think for themselves in order to gain academic success. My goals are to provide the student with the critical thinking skills necessary to solve problems and reach their true potential.
Throughout my education, English and writing have always been my best subjects. I am currently a junior at Rockhurst University studying children's speech therapy, and I have 2 years experience teaching English as a second language in Thailand. I have tutored many students of all ages while working abroad, and my experiences have developed into a passion for helping others become better in all subjects.

Laid back, but encouraging. If a child is struggling, I don't think you should add fear and criticism to the situation. Having had Catholic nuns in all my grammer school days, pretty much put the "fear of God" into me, until I went on to public high school and college. then I was able to relax and embrace english and literature.
My BA degree was in Speech & Theatre. Who would have known that a shy kid like me would have excelled in public speaking, english, and theatre. I love the English language, even though I've had classes in French and Spanish. I started school when I was 4 years old (too early), and all my grade school years was challanged with education. Now that I am an adult, I feel that I have the experience to help children understand and find it easier to learn English and grammer, sentence writing, composition writing, essays, etc.
