Give Real life experience a try

Experience throughout school, work and personal experience dealing with the mentally challenged and dyslexia. my best friend had a son who was dyslexic and also he had ADD and I got him to trust me in babysitting and I taught him various things. I taught him how to read and write he could not accomplish that on his own. He was 11 at the time and I think with kids you have to be creative to teach them and I am very creative. I also have an aunt who is mentally handicapped, and I love spending time with her she is a very giving person. They teach me and it is always a joy to work with them and give something back.
Hands on approaches mixed with worldly knowledge, and a very patient style.

When it comes to math, there is always more than one way to attack the problem at hand and each method appeals to different students. I usually start off with one and I can quickly tell if another would be more effective for each individual since I've noticed everyone has different styles of learning. I do believe everything mathematical can be taught and learned - there are no lost causes when it comes to math.
I received my BS in Electrical Engineering in December. I was one of two who graduated under the Honor's Program and maintained a 3.72 GPA. I've been tutoring math ever since my second semester in college and even while I was in high school. I've taken Calculus 3, differential equations, linear algebra, and discrete mathematics and received an A in each of them. I have a great deal of experience along with a sound background in mathematics.

I believe that all students have the ability to learn and it is simply my job to make the subjects more interesting, understandable, and fun for them. Every student learns in a different way and I simply introduce different ways of teaching to make learning the different concepts easier. I have experience working with elementary, middle school, high school, college students and parents to correspond times to meet. I understand that many parents employ tutors because, while being a parent is a job in itself and time for homework can be hard to find. Students often benefit from a fresh perspective and having someone new involved in their lives that can help them succeed in school is a great confidence booster and wonderful for self-esteem.
I went to Dixie State College and studied science courses while working as a drop-in math tutor. I transferred to Utah State University and tutore ... read more

As I finish a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in training and development, I realize that I want to continue my formal educational while sharing my love of learning. My prior formal education includes a double bachelor in Honors Comparative Literature and Honors French earned with University Honors. My teaching and tutoring experience began in high school where I was a teaching assistant for the elementary special education classes. In college I was a teaching assistant for the honors department, taught English in Russia and Belgium and tutored friends in French. After college, I found myself “teaching” adults. As a national management trainee for Sears, I facilitated employee career development seminars. I trained military personnel internationally on software, have presented several classes to community organizations and, more formally, substituted fo ... read more

I love kids - they are often sweet, funny, easily impressed and are a great audience. I know that it is possible to make learning fun through a close, interactive relationship with a student - showing and guiding them through your own discovery of the subject. There have been times when I could feel one of my students learning; it is always a smile-provoking moment and I treasure every one.
I have a Master of Arts degree in English from Utah State University and have taught EFL overseas and within the US. Recently (from 07-08), I worked as a Math Tutor for challenged fifth graders and also for Kindergarteners part-time at Lincoln Elementary in Layton while my son was in pre-school. I am competent in elementary math and sincerely enjoy helping others to find the inherent beauty of numbers and what they can do.

A Little Bit About Me...

I recently finished a double-major in college and maintained a GPA of 3.75. I took many education courses throughout my college career in obtaining my degree in Childrens' Studies. I have helped tutor in biology, earth science, social studies, English, algebra, reading, and Spanish.
I absolutely love working with kids and teens. I believe that all children want to experience success, but each might define "success" a little bit differently. I am willing to take the time to find out what motivates each individual student and go the extra mile to help them. I am a firm believer in experiential education and try to relate what a student is learning in class to something they love, engaging and involving them in the process as much as possible. As a tutor, I do my best to make things fun while also making progress.

I am very passionate about seeing someone suddenly gain understanding about a specific concept. I strive to understand first the learning style of any student and create new ways to connect to them via that learning style. I emphasize communication and understanding questions and doubts of the student to maximize learning and retention, and I make learning fun and relevant. I am very patient and easy to relate to, and I try to be a friend before anything else; I am a tutor, they already have a teacher, and I specialize in supplementing what they know with what they need in addition. I completed my BA in English at the University of Utah in two and a half years in order to begin work on my MA in English as quickly as possible. In the half year between completing my BA and beginning my MA, I was a substitute teacher in the Jordan School District in Sandy, UT. I have just finished my first year in the English MA program at Boston College where I was also a tutor at the Connors Family Learning Center. In addition to school and tutoring, I also work as a Kaplan Student Advisor at Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions where I help students with basic questions about Graduate level admissions tests and test-taking strategies. All of my experience with English, History, Composition, test preparation, and ESL has made me a qualified candidate for a variety of teaching/tutoring positions. A Little Bit About Me...

As a Weber State graduate, I majored in Zoology and minored in Chemistry. Even though science has always been a passion of mine, I am very knowledgeable in math. During my undergraduate studies, I have gained even more experience and improved on my grammatical skills. I had the opportunity to be an Anatomy lab instructor for three semesters. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to tutor my wife with her math. At first, this was a challenge. Math is a subject where one cannot only rely on memory. I found that it's best to be very patient and teach the processes of mathematic principles, rather than just assume the person whom you're tutoring knows these processes.
I never realized exactly why people go into teaching until I gained first hand experience. Teaching is one of the most rewarding things one can do as a profession. When I first started lab instructing, I immedia ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the most important trait a teacher can have is enthusiasm as it can be contagious and get students to completely engage a subject. I strive to be enthusiastic and dynamic in a teaching setting. I also believe in working to tie concepts and ideas to students' everyday lives. This approach brings students closer to the subject matter and also helps with retention of material. Lastly, I believe it is important to have a nurturing environment in which no question goes unasked because the student feels uncomfortable. By being open, enthusiastic, and tying material to the world around us, I am able to help students realize their potential.
I graduated from Hampshire College with a degree in Anthropology and Photography. These degrees required rigorous researching including an intensive semester of independent field study. My field study culminated in a 70 page thesis and ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

By day I work as a process engineer in a manufacturing facility. I love my job and the unique problems I get to solve every day. I also love teaching and have previously worked at tutoring centers tutoring high school students in math, science and ACT test prep. I love math and science and I love sharing them with students.
Because I have spent time at commercial tutoring centers, I know how to identify what type of learner your student is and what tools I can use to help them understand the abstract concepts math and science utilize. I also have the ability to tutor 2-3 students at a time in different subjects so feel free to ask about tutoring for multiple students in one session. I understand my role as a tutor is not just to get the student's homework done, it's to make sure your student knows the concepts and can perform when it's test time. They will not just improve ... read more

More About This Tutor...

After finishing my Masters Degree in Education I taught one year in a private school then opened my own business tutoring primarily homeschool students during the school year. The students I have worked with are primarily ages 11-18, but my experience with my own children includes the primary grades. I have tutored most subjects including reading, writing, science, history and math (through algebra).
I believe that children are born smart. Some of them have special learning challenges and some have been taught to believe that they are not smart. By treating children as though they are intelligent and providing encouragement and learning opportunities, I have seen children grow and progress in almost astonishing ways. The sparkle in a child's eyes when they finally "get it" is the best paycheck.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have yet to complete my senior year of studies at the University but I will be done by Spring 2011. I am working towards my first Bachelors Degree, BS in Physics and will continue with school after until I get my MS in Chemical Engineering. Physics and Chemistry have always come easy to me and I know that because of this I can help others understand these sometimes tougher subjects easier.
My teaching style might be a bit unorthodox but it is something I have acquired from past teachers and tutors. I have not helped or tutored in a while but I believe I have an easy and simple approach to it. When it comes to physics and chemistry, the math can be learned over night, the concepts are most critical. You can't read a problem and interpret the question word for word. You have to find a way to relate it to real life and what you see everyday. A spinning disk becomes a truck tire, a s ... read more
