I am very comfortable working with both indivduals and groups of students. I want to know what my students are thinking and feeling, so I very much prefer a seminar style of instuction. Depending on the subject - be it composition or literature - I break up the time we have into workshops, allowing us to focus on issues or topics of interest or greatest need to the students. If the coursework is grammar or composition, I also encourage a lot of hands-on writing and boardwork when possible. I feel students learn best when they try to express themselves and are then open to honest critical review. My comments on tutoring Reading : Reading is taught as a natural process with grammar.

I teach a in a very relaxed, non-intimidating manner. Students are encouraged to speak and work with each other in group settings. I always determine each student's level of capability in order to teach at the appropriately. Each previous lesson is reviewed at the beginning of each class. Quizzes are given to measure students' progress, as well as student feedback to measure my teaching goals and objectives.
For the last 4 years, I have traveled to Mexico to teach. Previously, I spent three semesters teaching young adults and parents from all over the world at The Carnegie Center in Lexington, KY. I began teaching for fun over 15 years ago, giving English lessons to Latino horticultural workers during lunch. My background in advertising and writing seemed to help me move seamlessly into teaching. I returned to the university to study Spanish, and my ESL certification soon followed.
