I have over 10 years in tutoring elementary and high school students. I started tutoring in 2000 with the YMCA's after-school program. I stayed there for six years before taking a break to finish college. In summer 2009, I started tutoring with the Boys & Girls Club in Montevallo. I believe that learning needs to be fun, but that students need, and most of the time want, structure in their classrooms. I believe that learning needs to be relevant to students. They need to know why and where in their lives they will need or be using what they are being taught. I use a variety of instuctional methods while teaching (lecture, discussions,group activities, etc.) so students stay interested and because every student learns differently. I earned both of my degrees while working and caring for very young children. I feel this was possible because of my time management skills and determination to see a task through to completion. I have worked in the accounting or banking industry for over thirty years and truly love working with numbers. I fell in love with accounting in high school, finishing the semester project in about a month and a half and never looked back.
