I received a B.S. Degree in Education with a teaching certificate in English-Communication, at the secondary level. I am also qualified to instruct younger children. My graduate work focused on elementary students.My experience with young children, was learning to identify reading disabilities, administering standardized reading tests, to assess the instructional and readiness levels of individual students. After finishing student teaching, getting certified to teach in Pennsylvania, and graduating from Moravian College, I joined Teach for America and committed two years to closing the achievement gap. I have taught 10th and 11th grade English for two years in Forrest City, AR. I have run after-school ACT prep sessions with my students, and I have worked one on one with them both before and after school hours. I like to tell people that i did not choose teaching; rather I believe it chose me. I have always worked with children that were struggling whether it was socially or academically. I was typically working with what are known as the "at risk" students. However, I eventually found my way into the classroom as It was noticed that I had a natural ability to balance teaching in the content area and managing behaviors.
