My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have experienced personal situations in which ADHD has made a task more challenging. I have a great understanding of ADHD and how it can make schoolwork more difficult. One thing I always remember is that it is not the child's fault.

I have taught in a first and second grade classroom for ten years, and served as a Reading Specialist for k-5 for seven. I have discovered that the most successful way to teach a child how to read is gaining their interest and full attention, while observing what learning style is best for each individual child. While teaching I use an assortment of manipulatives, repetitive phonics instruction, and books! Whatever works for your child, works for me! This is my first year not teaching in the public schools, and I am very familiar with the assessments and expectations. I have led professional development on mclass for K-3, and have years of successful experiences in preparing students for EOGs. Therefore, I also keep the expectations required from the school in mind when planning lessons. References from local schools available.
I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary ... read more

Let's learn and Have fun while doing it!

I am here for you. All I aim to do is ensure that your child understands the work they are doing, and teach them a much easier way to comprehend what they are attempting to learn. As a child it can be hard to relate to the work at hand, and as a teacher it can be very complicated to break down the learning material so that the child may understand the lesson. I am here to make learning fun and easy so that grades may improve and education is achieved.

I have found that the best way to teach students is to have them do, not listen. Most students at any level are very unmotivated to learn if someone is lecturing at them or working at a pace that is above what they are able to accomplish. I tailor my lessons to the students needs and provide ample opportunities for practice, revision, and remediation when necessary. I want each student to feel a sense of accomplishment every day and I strive to help each child with whatever it is they may need.
I have been a teacher in the Hoke County school district for 3 years now. I taught 5th grade for one year, then moved to second grade for the past two years. I believe that all children are capable of learning in their own way. After having studied and working in the field of special education, I have developed a strong mind set that presentation of material by the instructor determines the outcome of the students learning process. I have found subject integration as well as scaffolding techniques to be very successful. I believe that teaching should not only focus on textbook material but also on the motivation and self esteem of the students. I hold high expectations for all of the children I teach and I love watching them and helping them reach their highest educational potential

While working with at risk students, I was faced with challenges that ranged from behavioral, health, educational, as well as family dynamics. With that experience I have learned to be fluid with your teaching approaches with the students. During my time with the students I noticed that some were able to learn by a verbal approach and others were more visual. In spite of the approach I noticed that it was important that you hold the attention of the child by making it exciting as well as be patient and considerate of their feelings.

I'm passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. Age isn't a factor in this pursuit, for no matter what age we can still have an impact. Building trust and rapport with students is vital. Being positive and uplifting is critical to the learning of students that are discouraged and have met with way too much negativity in their usual learning environments. Teaching/tutoring lower level reading and writing skills is what I have excelled in the most but am able to help students at higher levels. These levels are not age specific. Having taken an online adult student from very low level subtraction skills all the way through multiple digit multiplying/dividing with decimals is one of my proudest accomplishments.

My teaching style is fairly laid back. I believe that all students possess the potential to learn. Teaching should be done in a multisensory method to appeal to students' senses and to help them succeed as best as they can. Each student is an individual and should be treated with respect. The learning environment that teachers provide should be nurturing, structured, and interesting to allow for students to reach their full potentials. While every student may have some weaknesses, concentrating on a student's strengths is important to help them enjoy school and find success.
