I love teaching and I truly believe that all children can learn, but in their own way. I have experience in differentiating instructions for all different learners and appealing to all of the different learning styles. I am very proficient in using technology. All of my students are very successful in my classroom and on standardized teaching. I have over ten years of experience in the education field in the capacity of teaching. I have a BS in mathematics and a MA in Teaching. I hold two valid professional teaching certificates in Mathematics,Academically Gifted education, and Gifted and talented education for the states of NC and SC. I have been a high school math teacher for 10 years, an adult high school and GED teacher for eight years. I also have over 12 years of tutoring experience in mathematics, science, and reading.

I have approximately one year of experience of professional teaching working with a grant funded program at UNCP. With this program was very hands-on and interactive with the students. I worked directly with the professors in the science department. As a UNCP alumnus, I currently hold a BS in Biology. I have tutored peers in the past during my second year at UNCP. Subjects that I am familiar are science and math. I have a lot of experience in the science field. I currently work full-time in a lab using my science degree. I’m eager to work as a tutor and use my experience to help advance someone else’s education.

I have not taught anyone or tutored anyone for money. However, I would like to have the oppitunity to be able to tutor children or young adults on their way of the journey of life. I too was tutored going through school and not just once. I attended Sylvin Learning Center every other year since sixth grade. It helped me understand the areas that I didnt and excel in the areas I did. I would like to give thas opportunity to someone else. I learned through visual aid. So, I guess I would lean towards this style of teaching. However, if a student learns better with audio aid then I would be willing to combine the two methods to better educate the student. My goal is to provide the best education possible and to suceed in that is to have great communication and alittle fun doing the work that is expected.

As a Fayetteville State University undergraduate, I did a lot of volunteer work with high school student. I also worked in the school's computer lab assisting students with classwork and homework. I have tutored students for the SATs. My specific field is English but I can also tutor in Spanish. I have an extensive amount of knowledge in grammar and composition as well as anything in the literature field. My passion since I was 5 years old has always been teaching. I used to play teacher with my sisters and give themm stickers for job well done. I feel students will respect you and appreciate you if you relate to them. Not necessarily reduce yourself to their level but treat them like young adults. There have been many teachers throughout my career as a student that have greatly motivated me to succeed and I genuinely want to do the same for others.

I graduated from Heidelberg College in 2004 with a degree in Early Childhood Education and a Reading concentration. From there I worked as a substitute teacher until getting my own classroom in 2006 I taught 3rd grade from January 2006 until June 2008. I left that position to pursue other career options. During my college experiences I often tutored students in Reading. While teaching, I tutored students in reading and math to prepare them for the End Of Grade Test. I love learning math and science and I enjoy sharing the same love of learning with my students. I like seeing the look on their face when they really get it! Students requiring tutoring are sometimes in academic distress and have anxiety therefore I have a more easy going and patient style of tutoring than most. I believe I'm an effective tutor because I remember the exact same difficulties and questions I had as a student and can relate to their frustration. Most people as well as myself are visual learners thus I teach by working several examples and gradually increasing the difficulty at a pace set by the student.
