After a rewarding and successful career as a fourth and fifth grade teacher, certified in SC and GA, I have recently retired, yet still have a passion for teaching boys and girls. From 2nd grade to my freshman year of college at Converse College, I took rigorous piano lessons from two teachers. Each year, I competed in several competitions, one of which was always a state-wide piano competition. After my freshman year, I decided that I wanted to be a band director, so I switched to flute (which I have had seven years of prior experience). Converse College allowed me several opportunities on both instruments. With piano, I performed in a recital and a piano duo for a semester. With flute, I performed with the Converse Wind Ensemble, Converse Symphony Orchestra, and Converse Opera (Fiddler on the Roof). I also gave a flute junior and senior recital at appropriate times.

I love working with children and students of all ages. I was a volunteer at Shriners Childrens Hospital for many years in the recreational therapy department. I was a "class teacher" at a friend's daycare part time, and I held a summer job as a lifeguard and swim instructor for many years. I find that when teaching something new or difficult, it is best to find a way it relates to each individual. Once you discover this, you can make it fun and relavent for them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently teaching mostly guitar and bass. I encourage the students, sometimes acting as their cheerleader as I take each student through a custom talored series of learning about their instrument as well as learning songs that are appropriate for their level and interest.
I have been teaching music - guitar, piano, bass and music theory all of my life, but most recently contiguously for the last seven years. I have a BA in Sociology from Clemson University. I was always good in math, science and history in addition to social sciences and music.
