Through all of my work related experience, teaching has been the one thing that I loved and felt completely comfortable doing. I believe that every child can learn, but that they often need individual attention and a variety of strategies and techniques used in order to find the one that fits. I teach most often in an investigations approach, learning through experience and experimentation. I believe this hands on learning helps to cement information in a person's memory.

Normally I would have them write something and then we would look at their work together and discuss how we could improve it. Once they see how they write, and then learn what they need to do to improve that, and why, they start to incorporate that writing style. We may write up templates, or dummy copies, so that they have something to refer to the next time they need to write a similar project. It isn't about showing them what they aren't doing, but showing them what they can do and how they can improve that.
I've worked as an addiction tech, juvenile court officer, volunteered at Girls, Inc., an obituary writer, and a freelance writer.
