I love teaching and working with all learners. I believe all children can learn! I feel that I am an organized, patient, caring individual who teaches students using their learning style and choices. Also, I feel that being able to listen is an important characteristic one needs to display in order to work effectively with learners. I am currently in my second year of teaching. Before teaching, I worked in an afterschool program for students.I have had multiple experiences working with children from all types of backgrounds, socio-economic status, and ability levels. I hold a bachelor degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement as an Instructional Strategist I, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of the variety of teaching and learning strategies. In addition, I am a mentor teacher to two new teachers and I am working toward my Masters degree in Education.

I began as a teacher's assistant in 1994 for 4 years before returning to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Ed. I obtained endorsements in high school math and reading. My teaching experience began at a school for girls who are court ordered to residential treatment for behaviors. Unfortunately, after over 8 years in this position, I was laid off. Since then I have been employed by Sylvan Learning Center, a tutoring facility where we work with student of various ages and abilities. We assist these students with reading, math (both beginning to high school levels), study skills and test prep. I have taught various levels of math - elementary through some college - reading, speech, computer applications, science, history, and English. I enjoy teaching mathematics and have a deep love for what can be gained from having an understanding and appreciation of math. I also understand that math is not everyone's favorite subject. With that in mind my goal is for everyone that I teach or tutor to have enough of an understanding to appreciate its usefulness. When I teach I utilize several different teaching strategies to ensure that I reach as many of my students as possible. As a tutor I am able to use these strategies and more.
