Biology is one of my top subjects! I have a B.S. in Biology, an M.A. in Entomology, and several credit hours towards a Ph.D in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I have taught both lecture and laboratory sections of General Biology at the college level and high school level. In addition to my formal teaching experiences, I also worked as a zoo educator for many years teaching about animals, biomes, ecology, and conservation. My background working as a biologist in various fields has been an invaluable asset to my teaching of the subject. Having worked as a researcher at the Human Genome Project and at the University of Kansas in labs studying animal behavior, genetics, and evolution, I have firsthand knowledge of real world applications of biology that make learning the subject relevant to people.

In my career I have taught different levels of biology in a variety of settings to students ranging from preschoolers to adults. What started out as a college summer job teaching children at a St. Louis Zoo camp, grew into a career of being a conservation education coordinator at the Kansas City Zoo. I have never had formal experience tutoring. However Throughout my years of schooling I would participate in study groups which I see as everyone tutoring eachother. I also have two siblings, one very close in age and the other is approximately four years younger. Needless to say, I frequently helped my younger sister with her homework. Just to clarify when I say 'help' I do not mean I just gave her the answers, I would make sure that I either explained or demonstrated the correct way to approach a problem in order to make sure that she understood how to apply the knowlege come test time.
I am a kenisthetic learner but when "hands on" is really not an option I (especially with mathematics) draw so that I have a visual, physical representation of the task at hand.

Reviewing the practice tests, if available, is also key, as many teachers use only slightly modified versions for the real test. My comments on tutoring Biology : Very knowledgeable in the subject and taught as a substitute teacher in area high school.

My teaching style is very interactive with the student. The student is provided with the skill and information on the subject and then they explain their knowledge and understanding of that subject. This is either done to fellow classmates in a "student teacher" role or to me.
Accepted to an internship with International Ergonomics Corporation in 1990. Experience in industrial injuries, taught back safety courses, performed Functional Capacity Evaluation, Job Risk Analysis, and Job Placement Testing. Was selected as Physical Therapy Department in the U.S. Navy from 2002 - 2006 were I supervised the treatment and testing of military personnel, and taught back safety/rehab classes and post-surgical class for rehabilitation of the knee.
