Writing, reading, and english have always been my passions. I don't have any formal training within the english tutoring or teaching worlds; however, I have always been a "go-to" for friends and classmates whenever they had questions or concerns about their assignments. Next fall I will be heading back to school in order to obtain my teaching credentials, and in the meantime, I thought that I would use my talents to help others.

Highly Experienced Teacher/Director looking to help students

Students best learn by doing, by experiencing, and from a variety of experiences that incorporate their five senses. Students learn with different paces and styles. There is no one way for a student to become well-rounded, it is just a matter of providing experiences where the student can learn from the environment. It is not a matter of one student being better than the other, rather it is a matter of students learning in different ways.
My experience entails a well rounded experience of teaching students from preK to adult. My most important position was acting as Director of Education for Sylvan Learning, where I basically ran the learning center. I supervised teachers and all student programs, conferred with parents from the beginning to the end of their experience with Sylvan, and did so much more to develop a positive experience with all clients and teachers involved. I have ... read more

At Hofstra University I gained not only the experience necessary to work with a diverse group of children and teachers, but also the understanding of how important reading, writing, comprehension, and grammatical skills are in life. I hold a Bachelors Degree in English Literature as well as Sociology. In the past 3 years I have been given the opportunity to help students to learn and grow in several different fields. I have spent time in several different schools teaching middle school subjects to advanced learners and even children ranging from ages 5-15 who suffer from learning disabilities and lack social skills. I spend my time volunteering for many educational organizations and I am very proud of my education and experience.
My main focus when teaching is to "keep it interesting". Students struggle with relating to their teachers and administrators in a classroom or school set ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I focus on starting small and helping the student develop on their own. For example, when I teach how to write a strong essay, we write many drafts of an introduction. Then, we write many drafts of body paragraphs. Last, we would focus on writing a conclusion. Then, by working seperately on all of an essay's parts, the combined product is much stronger. The art of teaching is similiar to building a house: you start with an idea, then a foundation, and finally the framework.
I volunteered at the Ocean County Library writing center for four years and helped my peers construct, organize, and layout essays. I also proofread, edited, and helped in the creative process of their essays. I am curreently working part-time at Ocean County Library (Lakewood Branch) tutoring k-12 students after school in the S.M.A.R.T kids program.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an English educator, I firmly believe that the more experience you acquire, the more effective your teaching style becomes. Since I not only teach language arts in a middle school setting, but also accept positions which require me to tutor students of all ages (elementary to college level students), I feel my experiences have allowed me to become very flexible and adaptable to any teaching situation and any student's need. Also, because of these experiences, I am more confident in the content area I teach, but I am still open to learning new ways to present material.
My teaching style is fair, but firm. I am a strict believer in following directions and organization as a basis for any subject taught, and I strive to help my students understand this process as they go through their educational careers. My role is not just as educator, I am a director in my student's study sk ... read more

I enjoy working with children. I believe each child is different in the way that they learn and you have to vary your teaching style to the child. However, my general teaching style would be to provide examples that the child could relate to in their daily life.

I have over twenty years teaching in the public and private schools in New Jersey. I have taught English, Math, Social Studies, and Business. I am a NJ state certified teacher in elementary and secondary education and recently completed my special education certification so that students requiring special educational accommodations can be properly recognized and taught. I have earned a BA in Education, a BS in Business Administration and two Masters Degrees.
My teaching style is focused on student achievement. Many parents complain that their child does poorly on tests. This is often a result of inadequate teaching practices which fail to recognize individual learning differences in students. My goal in teaching is to individualize the learning process for each student, so that the student understands and retains knowledge and is able to explain what they learned. Th ... read more

Teaching is second nature for me. I knew I would be a teacher "when I grew up" in fourth grade, and never looked back. I have raised two bright, self-motivated children who attend a medical career academy. My oldest graduated from Allied Health last year and attends Boston University as a Pre-med Bio-Medical Engineering student. Teaching them foundational reading, writing, and critical thinking skills early in their lives made a tremendous impact on their future academic endeavors. Maintaining high expectations, providing positive, nurturing assistance and support, and encouraging critical thinking continues to be a mainstay in my approach to teaching.

I love teaching and have spent a lot of time helping out my neices and nephews. While I do not have any formal training or experience in teaching per se, I am often the "go to" person to learn something. I am patient and creative in that I utilize various methods to teach or help someone learn something. I firmly believe that there isn't a cookie-cutter approach to learning - everyone has their own threshold for learning and understanding and oftentimes its just a matter of discovering tuning into what approach makes something "learn-able". Aside from that I am young at heart and very approachable

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching English, composition, college research and writing, argument and persuasion, fiction writing and poetry at the university and community college level for more than five years. My undergraduate degree is a BA in Literature from The Richard Stockton College of NJ. I graduated with 4.0 GPA (Summa Cum Laude), and my graduate degree is a MA in Creative Writing and English from the Creative Writing and Literature program at Temple University in Philadelphia. The students I teach vary greatly in age and ability. That’s one of the reasons I find teaching both exciting and rewarding. I have published poetry, short fiction, and have earned awards for teaching on the college level.

I have not only graduated college with a BA in Communications and a specialization in journalism, I am also currently enrolled back in school to earn additional credits for my teaching certification. I will have my CE by the end of Summer 2011. I have interned/worked in NY for HUGO BOSS CO headquarters, Meredith Publishing Company (Ladies’ Home Journal and American Baby Magazines), and was the lead writer for Fahrenheit Media Group. I have tutored adolescent community members in the past on their writing/reading abilities, and results were evident.
