A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the best way for students to learn is by doing and discovering the material hands on as oppose to being lectured to. I like to instruct demonstrate the learning material to my students intially, but after that i prefer to have my students try the material themselves so they can see and understand what aspects of the material they dont understand. That helps me pinpoint what i need to focus on as far as helping them with a particular area of miscomprehension. I strongly believe in learning by doing instead of learning by seeing. I am fully aware that everyone learns in their own way so i am flexible in my teaching methods.

Social Studies is one of my top subjects! I have taught Social Studies in 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades. Especially loved the older grades, as we could really delve into the topic at hand. Brainstorming, discussion, and projects were a huge part of my class.

I have worked with children in a variety of settings and ages over the past 25 years: church camp counselor, gymnastics coach, dance instructor, theater, forensics judge, tutor, and classroom teacher. As a student I enjoyed most the teachers who facilitated learning. Teachers who lead students on a road of discovery as they learned, who taught me how to think and not what to think.
