Generally I will try to ask questions to see which specific points a student needs assistance with and make sure they understand the material on a fundamental level. I also believe that practice and hands-on experiences teach the most, so there tends to be an emphasis on working through problems step-by-step than lecturing. Ultimately I am flexible, and can change my style and routine to accommodate the students' needs.
While at the University of Tulsa I have tutored in both math and chemistry, so I have experience with those subjects in particular. Though I received a bachelors in Psychology I was also pre-med, so I was required to take several heavy science courses as well. As such I am also proficient in several biological subjects.

Biology is one of my top subjects! B.S. Biology

I have a degree in biology. I was planning on going to medical school at one point so I focused on human anatomy and human physiology. I also took advanced mammalian physiology 1 and 2 for graduate credit. I made A's in all of these courses. I took an aquatic entomology course one summer and decided to focus more on ecology and zoology. I have taken invertebrate zoology, aquatic ecology, environment science, entomology, and other courses.
When you study a biological concept your study process needs to be organized. Most of my tests when I started taking upper level courses covered over at least 100 to 200 pages in the textbook. You need to learn how to break it down in to smaller sections while using your notes from class to predict the most important information to know thoroughly for your next test. The ability to predict what will be on your test is what separates A from C stude ... read more

I have taken some graduate classes in child psychology and human physiology to gain a better understanding of the children that I will be working with and teaching. I have taught in a private school for 3 years and the public elementary school system for 4.
Every child has something to contribute to our community if only given the opportunity and tools to do so. Children can learn whether they are visual, kinesthetic, or auditory learners. It's my goal to teach to their strengths and abilities. I am positive, flexible, and eager to teach the skills and knowledge to be successful. With their curiosity they will ask their own questions and I will be there to nurture their discoveries. I firmly believe that if a subject seems incomprehensible, nine times out of ten it is the professor and NOT the intelligence of the student. Likewise, I believe lack of effort or motivation also play a significant roll when a student performs poorly. My formula for success is simple, we work through the problems together, and repeat until the student can comfortably complete the problem on their own. The only way to learn is to do, you just need someone to show you how.
After twelve semesters of college and a wide variety of courses, my college experience has left me with quite the education and still more to come. I am first and foremost a listener. I'm laid back and patient but understand that success on exams and in school does not come to most without hard work and challenging yourself to go out on a limb. I believe that the best way to learn is to make materials apply to you and things going on around you.
From early on in my high school career I understood that passing AP tests could mean graduating from college in 3 years, saving money for grad school, and a chance to get into the professional world sooner. That's exactly what I did. I had to take some summer school and intersession classes, but I endured. All the while I was involved with an organization on campus that worked to educate the student body on a number of environmental issues, worked with volunteers on events and campaigns, and trained my peers to take the same leadership that I did.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe teaching style depends on the student, and that student's learning style. A key element to determining this is knowing where the student's strengths lie--auditory, visual, or tactile-kinesthetic learning styles require different approaches, but a combination of the three enhances the overall understanding achieved.

A Little Bit About Me...

I currently have a bachelors degree in sociology with a minor in elementary education. During the past 4 years and working in the early childhood education industry I realized that many teachers were not getting the proper training that they needed to receive to help the children that they are serving. Once I realized this I decided to work on my Master's degree in Early Childhood Education in hopes that i could be an Early Childhood College Professor and teach students the ins and outs of the early childhood industry. While getting my bachelors degree I tutored in subjects such as reading, writing, math, and science as well as art.
I believe that all students learn differently and should be treated as so; with this being said i believe that each student should work at their own pace and should be helped to find strategies that help them learn.

My teaching is based on lecture explanation. During teaching/tutoring I encourage my students to ask questions. At the end of the lesson I provide problems related to the related material. Assign homework for next class session.
During my last year of college, I was employed by my university as a science/math tutor. During this year I was able to help students with their science problems of all levels. During my time in college I was involved in reading biomedical research papers.I was able to attract many students interested in the biomedical research field to learn how to read research papers. I was very proud of myself for this due to the high difficulty first year graduate students have reading these papers.
