A Little Bit About Me...

Since my very first year of Latin I, I have continuously demonstrated my affinity for the language’s grammar and syntax and received numerous accolades, including several gold and silver medals on the National Latin Exam and fives on both AP Latin exams. After achieving ‘Top Student of the Class’ at the University of Virginia’s Summer Language Institute in Latin, I proceeded to learn ancient Greek, another language to which I easily adapted. I went on after UVA to excel in the prestigious Post-Baccalaureate program in Classical Languages at the University of Pennsylvania, where I honed my proficiency in Latin and ancient Greek at a graduate level.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching strategy can be summed up in two words: encouragement and enthusiasm. I believe that once I have given a student the tools to succeed, he or she can do so - with enough encouragement. My students at Indiana University have all noted on their course evaluations that my encouraging and positive attitude has helped them improve their reading and writing skills. I also believe that in a tutor, enthusiasm for the subject matter is key. I am incredibly enthusiastic about reading, writing, and grammar, among other things; I know that I pass this enthusiasm on to my students. Once students are enthusiastic about a subject area, they are much more likely to work hard and succeed in that subject. I am a patient and creative teacher. I tailor my approach to the individual personality and learning style of the student. I am a recent graduate of Oberlin College, a school known for producing "lifelong learners". As a Neuroscience major, I studied many areas of science, including biology and chemistry, but am also proficient in English and Art. I have previously been an assistant camp teacher in early childhood education, but I have also taught animation techniques to children ages 8-14 in a summer internship position with the National Children's Museum in Washington, DC.
