I believe that people learn the best when they understand the meaning and logic behind what they are learning. When a student can see a pattern develop they develop an understanding that can be universally applied to many different areas of study and life circumstances. Learning is different then memorizing. It is especially important to understand the concepts behind the subject matter when planning continue in a similar learning subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that each student should be respected as an individual that is capable of intellectual endeavors. I utilize humor and have a relaxed attitude but I also expect hard work. I adapt delivery style to suit the learning needs of the student.
I am an experienced classroom teacher and have been involved in education since I was 18 years old. I have worked supervising general chemistry teaching labs as well as an organic chemistry TA. I followed this experience by gaining my general education certification through the STEM program at UNM. This involved a year of teaching as an intern at a local middle school. Following this I have spent the last two years teaching Integrated Science, Chemistry and Physics all at the high school level. I have also been occupying myself with obtaining Master's Degrees in Special and General Education.

I have been teaching young children for over ten years. I have a BA in Speech Communication. My research proposal was published in the Research Handbook of the George Mason Communication Department in 1996. I have superior writing and editing skills. I have a Master's in Education.
I currently teach to a diverse, at-risk population employing a variety of teaching methods. Many of my students are considered "gifted" after I teach them. My first grade students have reached as high as the 4th-6th grade reading levels. After one year of instruction, one of my piano students (age 6) was deemed a child prodigy during the National Piano Guild at Christopher Newport University. Teaching and teaching parents to teach their own children is my gift and passion.
