I worked with a variety of ages from k-12. My most recent experience has been with students in elementary school. I worked for a semester teaching children about sustainable practices and the benefits of buying produce from local farms. While I am most comfortable with high school students, I have great communication skills and can work well with all children.
I am willing to tailor my teaching style to the needs of the individual(s). However, I prefer to add an interactive element to all of my lessons.

A Little Bit About Me...

My bachelors is in Elementary Education, but my experiences are in middle school. I started my teaching experience in Salisbury Maryland where I did all of my student teaching. The two sixth grade classrooms that I engaged in were totally different from each other; different demographics, different backgrounds, different school cultures, and the list could go on. Each school however did share one thing in common; the ability to throw curve balls at you at every turn and neither schools fell short of an eventful day. I had tremendous mentors and I was awarded Maryland Teacher of Promise in 2017. For the past two years, I have been in charge of my own classroom of seventh graders. I have learned a lot from them and most importantly, I continue to learn every day from my students.
I believe that the success of the student relies in one thing; and that thing is TRUST. If the student tr ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Every job I've ever had has been one where I teach. I had a job 3 years teaching ballroom dance, 2 years I coached T-ball, and for 4 years I've tutored math. I just recently graduated and I can't see myself not helping someone learn and love math. Math isn't a subject that everyone loves but I believe that can change with the right teacher. I'm not a tutor that gets frustrated and just tells the answer. I'm also not a person who makes things difficult to understand. With all the different teachers that I've had through my life I have picked up on a lot of their teaching techniques. I don't ever give up on someone and most of all, I love seeing the light bulb of understanding on someones face.
I graduated from a Pennsylvania Systems of Higher Education college with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. The entire time I was enrolled I was a tutor in the Math Assistant Center ... read more

I have enjoyed each experience I have had with teaching, beginning with an informal position as a study group leader in the Genetics course I completed at Penn State University. While working on my MS at the University of Tennessee, I taught lecture and outdoor laboratory sessions for the Ornithology course, which included about 30 students. As the coordinator of the Conservation Science Internship Program at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, I am responsible for much of the training of 5-11 interns at one time. The Sanctuary hosts interns from all over the world including 26 interns (age range: 17-42) from 24 countries in my time as coordinator. I also teach two 1-credit courses per year as an instructor with Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA.

I have become very adept at determining what level each student is at and tailoring my teaching style to suit the students that I am working with. In a class of over 20, I was able to reach each student with modified lessons and assignments. In the case of individual tutoring, I move at a rate that challenges the student while giving them ample opportunities to feel successful. I enjoy encouraging students to work to their best ability and am excellent at finding ways to motivate students who are stuck, bored, or find the topic too challenging.
I have tutored at the middle, high school, and college levels since my first year of college in 2004. Since then, I have worked as a paraeducator for the Special Education Dept. of an elementary school where I worked with first and second graders. A Little Bit About Me...

I have trained students in a laboratory, restaurant and in the home. I graduated from college with honors and have succeeded in statistics, algebra 2, calculus 1, biology 1, chemistry 1, English literature, professional writing, civics, sketching/painting and classical guitar
It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation. I believe in practice and examples as the clearest path to success. I don't hand deliver answers and I make the process towards answers engaging. I make sure the time and place are conducive to active and non-distractive learning. I relay the importance and relevance of the material. I recap previous lessons and try to integrate them into current assignments. I always value and respect people and expect the same of my students.

As a young girl I grew up loving math and physics. I made sure to participate in every math and physics competitions in order to challenge myself and I was able to win two math competitions. While pursuing my bachelor degree I worked as a math tutor for college graduates who were preparing to take the GRE and GMAT. Last year I tutored a junior in high school who was working on achieving great results on his math tests. For me it was not only a great achievement, but also a great feeling watching him improve session by session.
During my experience as a tutor, I have gained the ability to identify the best way to convey the material in a way that matches the individual needs of the learner. Another thing that I have learned as a student and as a math tutor, is that the best and the most efficient way of learning in math is through practice and more practice. I tend to employ a quiet but direct approach to learning. Q and A sessions begin each session. We review the homework and past experiences of the student. I encourage students to write down their concerns and mark the areas of confusion at the time these arise. That way the students do ... read more
