Making Learning as fun as possible.

I’ve had many years of practice in the tutoring field dealing with the fact that my brother has a learning disability. He likes to have fun and thinks that leaning is boring, so I try to make learning as fun as possible. Then I have my student on student tutoring when the students tutor each other. I think its better that way because most students don't really pay attention to their teachers but they take it better when it comes from another student. Sometimes its better because something you understand they may not understand and when you explain it to them then may be they will understand it a little better. Basically what im saying is that some kids learn better from other kids.
I prefer to have a fun learning environment. I think you learn from hearing, seeing, and doing.

Currently a junior at the University of Memphis, I am seeking a Bachelor's degree in English. I love to write, and have always been the dictionary for people, so my concentration is in Creative Writing. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe a hands on approach to teaching a subject is the best way for a child to succeed. I believe that flashcards as well as games help younger children succeed in mastering a subject. Making a subject fun is key to helping a child tackle a tough subject. For older kids, practice tests are very helpful as well as flashcards. Encouragement and support is also an important part of mastery.
I have been a volunteer tutor at a local elementary school during their aftercare program. I have also been a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Memphis to a first grader who had trouble with math (adding,subtracting, and multiplication). My comments on tutoring Spelling : Spelling is one of my favorite aspects of reading and writing. I usually read with a red pan in hand!

Instead of telling the student the correct answer, I prefer to help them understand why the answer is correct. With writing, there can be better ways to word a sentence or rearrange a paragraph and I try to help them figure this out on their own. That way, the next time they run into a similar issue, they remember how they improved their writing the previous time.
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Writing in 2008 and am graduating this May (2012) with a Master's Degree in Journalism. I worked as a English, Writing, and Grammar Tutor for two years at both my college and graduate school. I have had experience tutoring and writing a variety of styles and genres including creative writing, non-fiction, editorials, poetry, blogs, press releases, and feature articles.
