With younger students, I tend to be much more directive so that we accomplish intended learning. With middle and high school students, I ask "Why" and "How do you know" quite often so that they learn to provide evidence for their thinking. 15 years experience in a broad variety of subjects!

I have a way of perceiving the difficulty the student has, and am able to explain the material in a simple way that makes it easy for students to grasp. I have a good rapport with my student and have had several that have told me that I am the best teacher they have ever had(which didn't hurt my ego!!) In the past 3 years, I have discovered a hidden talent and delight which I was not aware of having. As a tutor, both online and in person in the student's home, I have a real appreciation of that moment when the lessons dawn on the student and he or she begins to understand why the correct answers are indeed correct. That must describe the true joy of teaching.
