Psychology is one of my top subjects! B.A. Degree in Psychology from Oakland University. Currently obtaining a M.A. in Clinical Psychology at University of Detroit Mercy.

I believe that every individual has gifts, talents, and learning styles unique to them, so I challenge and motivate my students to meet their highest potential as independent thinkers. I have found this to be the most effective method for students in learning the subject best, being engaged in sessions, and gaining the confidence to solve tough problems and tackle challenging assignments on their own. My Psychology background has been beneficial when proactively working with a variety of students for different subject areas. Generally, students take in and process information in different ways, that is why I strive to really get to know every students unique learning style and passions, and tailor my approach to meet their learning needs and goals. Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. I will implement practices and materials I think will fit the student's profile. I feel a teacher wears many hats and you must be prepared to wear a different one any day.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from MSU in 2001 with a degree in Int'l Relations and Business. In 2007 I returned to school. During that time I took all the pre-reqs for the Accelerated Nursing program, earning a 4.0 in each. The classes included psych, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, bio and chem. I have been tutoring professionally for about 2 years now, but before that I worked with a lot of my friends and family. I struggled with ADD/ADHD while in school, and had to teach myself the skills to become a good student. Those skills include time mgmt, organization, prioritizing, etc. Over the last 2 years, I have worked with students of all ages. Subjects include Algebra, Geometry, ACT test prep, Chem, Psych, etc.
I believe that many students do not know how to study, and are unsure of where to begin. This is especially true for students entering college, or high school, who never really had t ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Whenever I begin working with a student, I assess their skills and identify the areas of concern. Are they lacking the prerequisite skills for a class they are struggling with? Are they struggling because they need more repetition and review, or because they lack organizational skills? Identifying the area of weakness makes it possible for me to individualize my tutoring to meet a student’s learning styles and needs. My goal in tutoring is not only to target the areas of weakness to allow a student to succeed, but also to help them become more aware of their areas of weakness and strengths. Tutoring should not only help students master the material in their current classes, but also help students develop effective study strategies and problem solving skills that will allow them to complete their work independently, when their tutor isn't there and succeed in both current and future c ... read more

I have a high regard for the brilliance of children. It is my experience that some children need assistance in recognizing their gifts. I have had a chance to see many intellects blossom and self esteems thrive. Using techniques learned from various levels of education classes teamed with experience, I am able to connect and allow learning to happen. I find great satisfaction in helping enhance the quality of education in the lives of children.
Teaching children has been part of my life for many years, on many levels. I am currently a full time substitute teacher for Ann Arbor Public Schools. My past experience includes teaching Pre-K, preschool, directing educational camp programming, as well as substitute teaching for various grade levels. I believe strongly in providing children an opportunity to learn material in a way that will resonate with them personally. Throughout my education leading to a dual Master's Degree I have been able to learn a wealth of information about tailoring information to meet individual learning styles. I have experience in a variety of subject areas such as: math, statistics, reading, writing, social sciences (psychology, sociology, political science). Additionally, I have provided private lessons for multiple students that play brass instruments.
I love working with all children, and all age groups. I am here to help find a unique way to present the material to your child to help them understand it in language that they can understand. I am patient, easy going and considerate. My overall goal is to help young students realize their potential, and instill a love of learning.

As a graduate of an all women's college and, subsequently, the University of Michigan, I am a fastidious worker who cares a great deal about the strides that I am able to make. As a graduate student instructor and mentor, I have learned to treat each student in my care as a unique individual whose learning styles dictated my efforts to teach them. I am a strong teacher in front of groups of students and, more importantly, a strong teacher one on one. I have had experience with college students as well as preschool students and elementary school students, and I thoroughly enjoy working with all of these groups of individuals.I entered the University of Michigan to complete a Doctorate in Developmental Psychology, and hold standing as an ABD candidate. I believe a good instructor does not force students to become good at data recall, nor does he/she simply lord knowledge over the students and assume an ivory tower or bully pulpit mentality. Learning is an active process, one in which the student must be intimately involved. My methods draw on a relationship with the students that identifies their strengths and weaknesses, and uses each to improve the other. My goal is to make students effective at identifying what helps them learn best, so that they can become ACTIVE in the learning process.
In my undergraduate studies, I volunteered as a high school athletics coach and took advantage of opportunities to lead college lectures in History, American Literature, and Philosophy. As a graduate student I continued this passion as a volunteer teacher at Community High School in Ann Arbor; there, I used my experience in athletics as a vol ... read more

Science is not the easiest of concepts to grasp so in order to enhance student learning I input a bit of humor into my lesson. I am very good at creating analogies to scientific processes and I have seen positive results from this. My goal is to create student understanding without the typical "memorize and recall" method which I feel is a burden on education and does not promote student learning. I love teaching science and my method is always to make the subject fun and interesting in any way that I can.
After graduating from Central Michigan with a BS in Business, I decided to go back to school to become a science teacher. I will be certified to teach grades 7-12 in Biology and in Chemistry. I am currently finishing up my last 3 classes before I begin student teaching. In the fall I will teach classes at Eastern Michigan to prospecting elementary teachers. I wanted to excite others as Chemistry had excited me. I teach the material and why it is so exciting. My style adapts to that specific student’s strengths, weaknesses and interests. I always try and connect their interests to the material, so it is more than just words and starts to be interesting. Chemistry is scary to many people, because they try to memorize, it’s too intricate remember everything. I teach the student to understand why and how substances react or behave. Knowledge of basics, allows the student to solve problems as they are given instead of memorizing specific answers. Problems must be asked from every angle so the student learns to use the basics to solve any scenario. Chemistry then becomes logical.
Although a senior about 20 credits from my BS, I know I am qualified for this job. My passion for Chemistry rubs off on those around me. With a near 4.0 GPA, I al ... read more

I can’t imagine myself not spending the rest of my life teaching. I have worked both in the educational field and the corporate world and without a doubt I know with whom my heart belongs. I have tutored in a community college for the last year. I also tutor Chinese students in math and biology; I speak Chinese and understand the language barriers that face non-speaking English students. I got my B.S years ago .I went back to school in my forties .I also tutor Psychology and Sociology I have several papers in review on Psychology related issues. I am President of our schools research group.
I love teaching. I feel children learn differently .Some children are visual while other children are lecture oriented. I have many ways of teaching, but I feel actual interaction works the best. I also feel that an approach to the big picture of how the material fits into the everyday life situations helps. I like to feel if you take the anxiety out of the material students learn with an open mind. Learning should be fun and rewarding.

With a BA in Communications from Michigan State University and a MBA from the University of Phoenix, I have learned the value of education and understand the weight it holds in society. My experience with tutoring children is quite varied as I have gained skills from various opportunities. During my years at MSU, I worked in an after-school program called America Reads that used an interactive approach to tutoring. The program was primarily one-on-one tutoring to ensure adequate attention to each student. The program focused on getting students up to speed on their reading level but provided other opportunities to help with other subjects as well. The best part was the relationships that were built with the students.
My teaching style is not easily defined as each student learns differently. To be an effective teacher I must adapt to the learning style of each student and address ... read more
