I've never actually tutored someone, but I am very good at relating with younger kids and High Schoolers. I was in band from 8th grade to 12th grade where I participated in the Front Ensemble section with keyboards, vibraphones, marimbas, xylophones and various other instruments. I was in the Wind Ensemble which is the highest band class and my last year they introduced the Percussion ensemble where I was a soloist. I was also the section leader during my last year as well. I teach a bible study class at my church where I am not always given my lesson on time, so I usually do very well under pressure. I did very well in High School by graduating with honors. I have always been in the top reading and Literature classes and I did very well in my Art classes. My grade in history was high eighties to high nineties so that was a great set of classes as well. I am the author of five historical novels and a number of articles, poems and short stories. I occasionally do short “residences” teaching Language Arts and Drama to special needs students in k-12 schools for VSA Arts of Florida. My graduate studies emphasized American and Tudor/Stuart History. My doctorate included a Criminal Justice minor. I regularly teach writing and grant writing seminars to adults, usually through libraries on weekends or in the evening. I believe everyone will respond well to individualized instruction when the tutor studies the student's learning style and offers the information in the form best suited to each learner. I am patient and encouraging with students. I work hard to find ways to present a subject so that each learner will find it interesting.
