My educational philosophy includes the belief that all students are able to learn, but they must be active participants in their own learning--they must be engaged. From my time as a reading tutor to struggling readers in middle school, I understand the importance of first assessing a student's abilities in basic literacy (phonemic awareness, letter sounds and blending, concepts of print, recall & comprehension, etc.). I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Physical Science from California State University, Fresno. I received my first teaching experience as a substitute teacher. I next worked as a long-term substitute teacher for a year. I was then offered a full-time, permanent teaching position as a fourth grade elementary school teacher. This position lasted three years.
