My experience teaching began at California State University, Northridge during my time as an undergraduate. During that period I worked as an outreach tutor through the university's Education Equity Program tutoring struggling students at the middle school level in reading and rudimentary mathematics. The reading program we used was Success For All. As a teacher I've taught language arts to middle school students and am deemed highly qualified as a multiple subject teacher and English teacher. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Physical Science from California State University, Fresno. I received my first teaching experience as a substitute teacher. I next worked as a long-term substitute teacher for a year. I was then offered a full-time, permanent teaching position as a fourth grade elementary school teacher. This position lasted three years. I will never forget the joy I received each time one of my students learned something that they had been struggling with for some time.
