More About This Tutor...

I have nearly a decade of secondary school teaching experience, including public and charter schools, middle schools and high schools. I am highly skilled and qualified to teach Social Science (especially US and World History) and Geo-Sciences, and have sometimes taught both science and social studies at the same school. I worked at Renaissance Academy Charter High School, for example, teaching five different courses before the year ended and the school was closed, as well as CHAMPS Charter High School, both in Los Angeles. I also taught in two large public middle schools (Sepulveda and Belvedere). Prior to this, I worked for more than a dozen years as a college teacher. My past academic/professorial work includes SUNY—Plattsburgh, Santa Barbara and Berkeley campuses of University of California, and California State University campuses at Northridge and Pomona. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style involves a positive approach. I believe students learn best in an environment that is both positive and challenging. Positive feedback is essential because students are encouraged to take risks and solve problems. A challenging classroom teaches critical thinking skills that are necessary for the global market.
I tutored philosophy students for a year while in college. I earned a master's degree in early childhood education and taught second grade for two years. I also was a substitute teacher for grades K-8th. Currently, I am a motivational speaker and a mentor through United We Mentor.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have earned a bachelors degree in Psychology, passed the CBEST, and have about four years of work experience as a tutor. I tutored students, ranging from grades K-12, in various subjects, but mainly in Mathematics and Language Arts/Reading. Also, in a previous position, I managed after-school tutoring programs for both elementary and junior high schools at the school site, in-home, and public location/library.
Education is extremely important to me. As an educator, I think it is important to not only share one's knowledge, but to be able to adapt one's teaching style for each student. Through my experience, I know it is important to have patience and be open-minded with my students. I enjoy tutoring and being a positive role model to all my students.

I use a white board when teach people because I find people get less stressed out when working with a problem if there is less scribbles on the paper. I also have a strong belief that it only takes one good example to understand the problem so I give the people I tutor one really good generic example of the topic and tell them to copy it down and refer to that example often and I find that it helps a lot.
I have a variety of degrees and specialties but math is my strong suite. I have tutored friends with great results. I have helped people in math classes ranging from simple math to statistics and even college level math. I love math and English and I also love working with people of all ages and teaching them to love math as well. I feel that teachers make things more complicated than they need to be and I am great at simplifying explanations for people.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love to motivate and present information, that is unique. For example, what note or bill is the lowest denomination ever printed and has the portrait of George Washington on it? If you gave me the obvious answer of the one-dollar bill, than that would be the wrong answer. The correct answere is the three-cent note printed in 1862. The bill is still legal tender, although it is worth a lot more as a collector's item. I make my students think. For example, what would happen to you, if you took off your spacesuit on Mars? I'm running out of space, but I made you indulge in critical thinking.

My philosophy of education is to be democratic. All students have a voice in decision making. All students can learn. I encourage individuality and independence. Students learn through examples, modeling, and setting high expectations. I teach through discovery and a constructivist approach. I believe all students can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. Students will excel by learning new strategies and techniques. I work hard to make a difference in my students lives.
As long as I can remember, I have loved education. Beginning in my backyard with my cat and dog to my brothers and cousins, I have been a teacher. I grew up to be a teacher and enjoy teaching and tutoring children. I completed my first degree and received my teaching credential in 1990. Recently, I completed my second Masters degree in Special Education an ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a passion and calling for working with children. From the time I was a child, I knew this is what I was meant to do. I believe children are the hope of our country, and that every child is capable of learning and expanding their knowledge. Knowledge is power, and if a child is given the proper encouragement and motivation they can and will succeed. I consider it an amazing privilege to be an educator and make a difference in the lives of my students.
Throughout my college years I have been employed by two different after school programs for a combined amount of 6 years tutoring/teaching in public school after school programs. (Grades K-6) I also spent 2 months teaching full time 3rd and 4th grade after college prior to unfortunately being laid off due to financial losses in the school. I also tutored English in college through an Advanced English class I was placed in.

My tutoring experience isn't really too official. I mostly just help people with College Algebra around the dorms. I am pretty good with teaching and helping with math, and could probably do it at a High School level. Not actually having a BS probably will just limit me to high school tutoring. With the people skills I have developed working as an Resident Assistant I know I can be effective in helping high school students in math, biology, french, and chemistry.
I really like to help people in general, that's the reason why I became a Resident Assistant. As a Resident Assistant I have aided many students with problems they may have in their first year of college, including tutoring them in subjects i am proficient in. I like to see people grow and learn over which is achieved by aiding a person in discovering and cultivating various talents.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a Pre-medical student, studying Neuroscience, I aspire to one day become a neurosurgeon. In my quest, I’ve decided first—to become a surgical technologist. I’ve served as an ST on annual surgical missions to the Philippines and have dedicated two-years to a clinical internship at Valley Presbyterian Hospital. As I advanced my education in Neuroscience I became responsible for biweekly presentations on various topics such as neurogenesis in Alzheimer’s disease, and neuroanatomical correlates in functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. I was a Subject Area Tutor for Organic Chemistry and Biology, as well as a Surgical Technology Instructor at Glendale Career College.
Recently I was asked to give a Guest Lecture on Neuroanatomy at Everest College. I wanted to take students on a ride through the nervous system, into subcortical structures, down the spinal cord to synapse onto muscles ... read more

I assess what their difficulty is. I may back track and ensure they understand the basic foundation of the principle they are learning, then move forward one step at a time, as they grasp each concept. Many times, they must understand step one, to complete step two, etc. I love to see people succeed. When a student finally understands a concept, it gives them, as well as me a feeling of great satisfaction.
Currently, I own my own Health Insurance Agency in Tehachapi. I am an Administrative/Management Professional with 20 years experience. A Little Bit About Me...

I absolutely love teaching, and hope to teach later on in life at a local community college. I have been known for making topics to be interesting whether or not the material is naturally interesting. I show the the students how much fun I have teaching the material. I feel if you show the students how much fun you are having teaching the material it gives the students the incentive to want to learn the material to the best of their ability. I also preach that everyone can do anything as long as they put their mind to it, and I will keep explaining something in multiple ways until the material is completely understood. Everyone has a different method of learning.

I recently graduated from U.C. Berkeley, where I earned a BA in Philosophy with a minor in English literature. For three years I worked as a freelance tutor. I honed my skills tutoring essay writing, English, U.S. History, basic economics, and Algebra 1 and 2.  I have also tutored for several AP courses, all of which I personally received a score of '5': AP English,  AP Art History, AP European History, and AP U.S. History. I also have experience tutoring for the SAT, especially in the verbal portion of the exam. For two years I worked as an editor of a noted journal of philosophy, which taught me to constructively criticize essays and gave me a mastery over English grammar. Currently, I tutor young learners in Echo Park.
