Every subject has its own teaching style, yet there are some consistencies throughout. I teach based on how the student learns. This may require adapting typical styles to meet the individual student's needs.  You or your child will benefit from my focus on repetition and consistency, yet at the same time my desire for a variety of learning techniques. I encourage every student to do his or her own best work before bringing it to me, then allow me to help enhance his or her work to help the student excel.  It is my firm belief that every student has the potential to excel with the right environment, style, and motivation. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that good teaching, like quality learning, comes with hard work. Having had the chance to see students grow with time, I have learned that patience, respect, and having fun are the best ingredients for a productive and positive learning experience. Often times, having a positive mentor can be that major difference in a student's life, and to that end I believe that tutoring is about more than just academic learning, but also about building relationships and learning essential life skills.
Although my chosen field of study is history, my passion is for education and learning. While earning both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees, I have acquired an essential skill set for working in the academic world, which includes excellent writing, reading, and critical-thinking skills, in addition to a proficiency in Spanish acquired through years of classroom study and travel in L ... read more

I find myself to be a patient and encouraging teacher. I find myself comfortable teaching people of any age, be it children, peers, or those who are older than myself. I am aware of the fact that each person has a different learning style and am quite well at adapting my own learning and teaching style to better help the student whom I am teaching. Helping people to better understand the discipline of English and Literature is one of my greatest pleasures.

My teaching style would be best described as creative and improvisational. Because I work with students from such varied backgrounds, I believe that the best method is one that allows for flexibility and at the same time incorporates lessons from several fields at once. For example, in both my GED and ESOL courses I incorporate music into my lesson plans. I find that music is an excellent avenue to explore contemporary topics that can then lead to essay topics. At the same time, song lyrics are poetry and can be studied as such.
As a student in the PhD program at the University of Florida, I have been very involved in academic pursuits. However, this personal endeavor reaches beyond my own experience as a student and extends into my professional work as an educator. A Little Bit About Me...

As a former probation officer in both the juvenile and adult population, I have worked on numerous community service projects and helped teach at risk youth life skills as well as assisting in acedemics. Additionally, I hold two degrees which has challanged me in the areas of reading and math. During this past year, I have tutored students from K-6 in the both reading and math. In addition, I have two boys of my own whom I continue to teach and monitor their progress.
Teaching style depends on the student. Establishing rapport at the beginning of the sessions and taking the time to talk to each student one on one will set a good foundation for learning. I teach through discussion and have the student teach it back to me or another party to be sure they understand the problem. I am confident they will progress with this approach.

My first job was with the Duval County Public School system(DCPS) as a paraprofessional at Fishweir Elementary, where I worked with children grades K-5th. My freshman year of college I tutored second grade students at Hubert O. Sibley Elementary in the America Reads program. Since then in I was hired by the Jacksonville Urban League as a substitute teacher based on the fact I have over 90 college credit hours in my chosen major English. I have gained a profusion of writing techniques due my extensive work with linguistic pedagogy in the professional writing field. Also throughout my years of learning I've tutored and aided several members of my church with their education.
Since I was young I've had a passion to help others learn. Anyone can learn something new on a daily basis even my self. You must remain teachable. I feel the best teacher also learns from their students. It is m ... read more
