Learn from the basics

I have taught several students in India, and I am quite properly understand the knowledge and the background required to teach subjects. I was myself a college topper and a school gold medalist. Hence I can teach and inculcate the knowledge of teaching in students. Learning maths and science is something very elementary if understood from the basics and in-depth. Thus it is very important that a student should learn, read and write all in-depth. This learning curve is something that I have tried to develop in myself from years to come and hope to imbibe the knowledge of it in several other students. I had got 167/170 in my GRE thus the basics of my maths is quite strong. I have even taught several students in India about how to crack this exam and helped several for cracking this exam too. I hope to help many more of the students.

I love teaching students of all ages. All individuals are different, but with patience, consideration and understanding students can improve their understanding of subjects and their learning skills; particularly in independent tutoring sessions. I believe in mixing instructional methods when teaching, including the use of modern means such as computer software. However, when tutoring I believe it is primarily important to engage the student, be creative and understanding. My personal goal is to be give my students a great opportunity for success in later life.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy helping others understand concepts that they are struggling with. It is very gratifying when a student has that "a ha" moment. I am a little strict with instruction. If a student is not paying attention or has not completed an assignment that I've asked him/her to do, I will not overlook it. I think that, in the interest of the end goal of improving grades, it's absolutely necessary to stay on task and on target throughout the process.
I graduated from Vanderbilt in 2004 with a major in philosophy and a minor in geology. My overall GPA was 3.674/4.000. I enjoy using both sides of my brain, so to speak. Through philosophy, I mastered formalities of the English language and developed an aptitude for critical and logical thinking. Through geology, I focused on the practical through the application of mathematical and scientific concepts. I have tutored student ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I tend to use a hands on approach to teaching. I put learning in the perspective of the students life into an experience that he/she can relate to. I asses the level of clarity needed based on the students response and actions. I like to teach visually which also helps for memorization and repetition. I take as many breaks as necessary for the student so that they do not get frustrated or discouraged. I also make them feel comfortable with me as a teacher so that all questions and comments are highly suggested and welcome. I am very patient, easy going, and considerate. Lastly, I like to tutor at a place that is most comfortable for the student.

I'm a chemical engineer and tutor with a strong interest in education. My background includes extensive tutoring and mentoring experience over the last 8 years. I am motivated and patient with students who have trouble grasping mathematical concepts. I have worked with diverse groups of students ranging from third grade to high school and college students. My engineering experience gives me a wealth of applications from which to draw examples and explain how equations work.
My approach encourages lots of practice and uses analogies and examples as frequently as necessary to get a particular point across. I am focused on making the subject matter both comprehensible and routine, with particular emphasis on checking answers and estimation. I love mentoring and working with all children. I believe all children can learn, but they all have different learning styles (auditory, visual, tactile, and kinesthetic). Also, learning must be relevant to each student. For example, using sports statistics to teach math. I am patient, easy going, and fun. I am a firm believer in teaching through self-discovery and in providing an open approach to learning. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and have support both in and out of the home.

As a teaching assist in the engineering department at the University of Florida, I tutored freshmen and sophomores who were working toward acceptance into the engineer college. I was hired to prepare students in the Cayman's for their A1 exams in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. However, I believe my best qualification is that of a mother. My son is now graduating from university. He is a well-round, posed, and confident young man - the best thing I every accomplished. In volunteering at his schools, I have tutored reading, math and science in every grade 1-12, receiving an award or two along the way. I am a writer, artist and theater set designer. Reading, writing, and speaking are essential skills that students of all levels would be well advised to hone and perfect. Throughout my teaching experiences, I have striven to assist both teachers and students to use words thoughtfully to be a critical reader of the words of others. While teaching continuing education classes for teachers, I helped my colleagues gain new tools to help them unpack difficult texts, and model how to share those tools with their students. I have experience teaching middle and high school students of all levels, from remedial to gifted. I also have tutored and mentored college students in reading, public speaking, and composition at all levels from undergraduate to graduate.
