My comments on tutoring ASVAB : I have worked with both 12 grade students and college level students on taking the ASVAB test. We work on all sections dealing with the test. Mechanical, word problems, math and englis.

I have taught k-12 and college level as well. I have a BA from CSUF and a teaching credential fro Chapman University. I have taught and coached volleyball,softball and basketball. I have taught both AP Government and Economics to high school students. I have taught junior science, math and social studies. I also have taught high school World, U.S.

A Little Bit About Me...

All children have the ability to learn, however some children simply need to be taught in a different way. In law school I am a teaching assistant and my favorite part about working with students is finding out what a student's learning style is. Based upon the learning style they describe I adapt my teaching methods to best fit their style. Children don't usually know what their learning style is, so I also enjoying figuring out what methods best suit them--be it auditory, visual, or kinesthetic.

As a Literacy Professional, I have a decade of experience teaching adults to read. My specialty was in showing volunteer tutors how to teach dyslexic adults and adolescents. I was instrumental in establishing both the first Workplace ESL program in Carson and in supporting dropouts in the community. When I left the program to do research, I had satellite programs running from Lomita to Inglewood.
I am a direct teacher. I look for what works and try not to use what doesn't work for too long. Especially when dealing with dyslexics, too much "teaching" has led to failure. I began teaching electronics, weapons safety, CPR, missile assembly and handling, and weapons handling certification in the military. My style is one of facilitation. Facilitating requires you to encourage the student to use their own understanding as much as possible. I usually use a multiplicity of approaches to help the student better understand the big picture and keep their perspective. I encourage the student to look at the problem with a logical perspective and estimate of what is happening in general terms as a reference point for when they are making their calculations.
