Dyslexia is one of my top subjects! I was a history major at Loyola Marymount University and tutored dyslexic students part time from grades 1-6. I personally am dyslexic and did not learn how to read until I was in 7th grade. My personal experience has allowed me to help others with this disability. I am also a good role model as I am currently in law school, showing that you can overcome these disabilities.

My studies in history have made me a terrific writer and researcher. I also have a great amount of experience in creative writing having taken many courses and working in talent agencies. Added to this I have worked in medical offices, elementary schools, coached sports, and am currently a part time law student. I am also a fiction writer and am the author of the amazon eBook series,Chronicles of Richard Spdafore. Please see blog for info. http://richardspadafore.blogspot.com/
I am extremely calm and teach at my students speed. Being dyslexic and not learning how to read or write until I was in 7th grade I am understanding and well-tempered to learning speeds. I also have strong verbal communication skills.

Dyslexia is one of my top subjects! I had dyslexia when i was younger it was tough and nobody even noticed until second grade. I received treatment and i was very fortunate that i was still young enough to have it reversed. I remember what it was like to have dyslexia and I know how to teach someone who has it.

I'm not very old yet but i know a lot. I've babysat my younger cousins and have had experience with many animals. ( Fish, Cats, Rabbits,Dogs, and birds.)I'm free from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. weekdays and 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. weekends and summer vacation. I can tutor, babysit, and take care of animals.I know how to cook basic things so if your looking for a babysitting tutor and will be away your child will be in good hands. My strong suite is probably science and history. I can help almost anyone improve their test grades ( as long as they are trying ) I'm not the tutor for someone struggling in Math past elementary levels though because I don't think I'd be able to help anyone entering algebra. ( I find it too complicated to explain.)I'll make learning fun for your child and will definitely have fun activities to do when we have spare time. Personally I believe nobody should work for mo ... read more

My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : My current career is in Applied Behavioral Analysis and my job is to work with children who are not neurotypical for whatever the reason.

Depends on how the client learns. I spend the first few days probing based on the Applied Behavioral Analysis standard before targeting specific patterns to teach.

I have taught all core subjects plus art history for over 20 years using various state mandated materials and supplementals I purchased through special ed catalogs. Student outcomes were best with the supplementals due to limited attention span and high interest-low level materials. I use various methods to determine mastery- I create my own written or verbal assessments, writing assignments and have students maintain learning journals. I have a background in educational psychology which is useful in dealing with students with behavioral issues.
I work through positive behavior supports, humor and style to motivate the student to understand the need to learn the core subject matter in order to proceed through high school. I am excellent at reading the needs of the student and creating lessons that are relevant, interesting and fun.

Every human is a treasure chest of capabilities

My teaching approach is eclectic as every child is a different child. One approach does not work for everyone and generally speaking I use a combination of instructional philosophies. No matter what technique, strategy or approach I use, the foundation of my instruction always starts with building a trusting relationship with the child built on caring and respect.

My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I used art as a means of improving my perceptiveness of objects, people, and letters orientation. I found that treating cursive writing like a form of art allowed me to improve my writing. Art lessons can enhance/make the student focus on the subtle differences that aid in skills like writing, reading, and tracking.

I have been tutoring art for over 3 years. My students have often had learning disabilities but that has not stopped them from being successful with traditional as well as digital art. You can view my skills as an artist at zakfalco.com . I have experience tutoring traditional drawing, pastels, charcoal, and pen and ink skills. I also have extensive experience with digital art tutoring in Photoshop, Illustrator, Maya, After Effects, and Flash. I only teach digital painting.
I do not believe in negative critique. It can be extremely harmful to someone's self image. Instead I praise what the student has accomplished and encourage ways to grow skills and enhance the image created. I prefer to teach one-on-one or two students at a time so that I can personalize the lesson to what the student wants to learn or is interested in drawing. This allows the student to achieve successful ... read more
