A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy tutoring those who are in Middle School or High school. I feel as though they tend to have a higher capacity for sustaining attention. Those are unique ages that can really build a foundation for later education. I believe that one-on-one time is essential in learning. Some people might learn well in a large group, but others learn much better when time is spent on explaing specific details. I find the most enjoyment when a tutee finally links the core concept and is able to solve more difficult problems on their own.

My volunteering began in 1993 when I was an officer at the Indiana University Bloomington chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary accounting society. I still remember going to the Boys and Girls Club to tutor each week. When I got the opportunity to work with the Junior Achievement organization while working in Butler, I jumped for joy. For 8 years I was a volunteer teacher for all three schools (elementary, middle, and high). My company closed down and I had to leave the Eastside JA board and the opportunity to help children learn. I learned much when I took the "Teaching Bookkeeping" class in college. I feel more than qualified to tutor a student in high school accounting, lower math, college accounting.
