My comments on tutoring Anatomy : Human cadaver classes are spooky, but extremely helpful! I apply my experience from those to my philosophy of "know thy self" and "form and function" to make Anatomy relevant and memorable to my students. The side-effect is an A!

I have worked with a huge diversity of students and I find that students remember, relate, connect and understand metaphors, examples, and models best. So I tell my students stories about what they see in the world around them, relating lessons to the news, and showing examples that are so cool they cannot be forgotten! I love tutoring because my specialty is identifying the source of confusion a student might have in a given lesson and using my knowledge and experience to explain the science in a different way. This can include directing the students to a particular on-line resource and/or tool that can help them study outside of our tutoring time, which can save a dedicated student money in the long-run.

Hi my name is Noor Abdullah. I am 22 years old. I am a college student. I have been tutoring elementary level students since 2007 and enjoy it very much. When I tutor elementary level students, it makes me happy to see the students succeed and know that they are understanding what is brought to them. I have been tutoring elementary level students since 2007. I enjoy it very much. My motto for tutoring is: the earlier in helping a child, the easier it will become. I tell students to never give up on what they want in life. You have to believe in yourself and know that you can succeed in life if you set your mind to it. Also never let anyone put you down and think that you can not do something. Each and every student can do something. Students just have to work hard and do their best. I do my tutoring at my home. I have a study room filled with books and a computer. It is a safe en ... read more

My "teaching style" changes depending on the needs of my students. In all cases, an initial assessment of both the academic level and the temperament of each student are necessary before I establish a particular style. Some students are comfortable with a quieter, more formal tutor, while others are successful with a more casual, animated tutor. In every situation, I look for opportunities to give positive reinforcement. For example, I usually warm-up with material the student feels relatively confident about, then add new or more challenging concepts, and end with the student feeling successful practicing on his or her own.
I have enjoyed teaching and tutoring a wide range of students in a vast array of different settings. Most recently, I have tutored reading to 4th graders at an elementary school, taught ESL and GED subjects to adults through an adult education center, an ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My number one goal in teaching has always been to improve the students approach and mentality. All most every student I have tutored had the hidden, raw talent to succeed in school, but either lacked the desire or the vision to do so. I want students to see problems and concepts like how I do. I want them to be able to see all the options when tackling a tough Math problem or see all the implications when considering cell organelles. I also teach them that they have to mentally prepare themselves to be in it for the long run. I teach them how to plan, so they don't burn out by the time finals come up. I graduated UCB with a 3.9 and everything I teach I practice myself.
As a pre-med at UC Berkeley, I have a vast experience with in the basic sciences. I fell in love with Molecular Biology because of how integrated the field was. Everything was connected in some way or another. To com ... read more

I prefer to teach not through rote memorization or lengthy lectures, but through participatory experiences. Following the theory that some people are audio learners, some are visual learners, and some are kinesthetic (doing) learners, I like to convey information to students through several media so they have a chance to absorb the lesson in whichever way best suits them. I also find that young children especially can learn a lot through games, and thus I have always been an advocate of educational puzzles, card games, etc.
As a high school student, I tutored my peers in French, drawing on my life-long use of the language to help others understand the intricacies of conjugation and word order. Now, as a college student, I am continuing my study of French to coordinate the dialect I learned at home with the formal use of the language. My tutoring experience in reading includes wor ... read more

As a graduate from a top-10 university and from graduate school, I know what it takes to get into a top program and succeed at a high level. In the past 5 year, I have been working as a consultant in the environmental industry, but want to take some time off now to explore other interest. I have previously tutored underprivileged teenage girls at the Florence Crittenton Center in Los Angeles for about one-year as a volunteer back in 2001. I found that experience enjoyable but never pursued it much further due to the demands of school at the time. Despite my lack of tutoring experience, I bring a wide scope of experience in the sciences and mathematics that would make me an outstanding tutor.
During the ups and downs of my undergraduate career, I became self-aware of the challenges that a student faces, especially within subjects that are not his/her strong suits. I believe ... read more

I am very much focused on teaching concepts and then ensuring that practical examples are worked to make sure the concepts are understood and applied. My style is to emphasize understanding the underlying concepts and logic that drive the subject matter. Once understood I like to use exercises and problems to apply these concepts and make sured how they are applied is well understood and the student can arrive at correct solutions.
