A Little Bit About Me...

I'm certified in both elementary general and special education. I've taught for the past 19 years. I have my masters in educational administration and will soon be a certified educational diagnostician. My favorite subjects are reading and math. I can tutor/teach writing but it's not my favorite subject. My philosophy is that every child can learn but our job as teachers is to figure out the best way to meet their learning needs. If it's not fun I don't want to do it and the students feel the same way. Technology: I create district trainings using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Camtasia. Would love to work with adults needing to learn computer skills. I'm currently the "go to" person in the office when anyone needs assistance.

More About This Tutor...

I am passionate and thrilled at the thought of teaching a child. Some of the educators I have been blessed with have given me inspiration and have left an everlasting impression that I will never forget. This is what I hope to offer in return. I believe I can relate material in a fundamental way so that the information is easier to understand. I am a visual learner myself, so providing an optimal picture of what to grasp is an important part of the learning process, so I will do my best to paint the best picture for the students. I am a patient, fun-loving, caring person who is excited about touching lives as a tutor.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching when there is a bit of a challenge getting the student to understand the concept. As I have mentioned, I can use different styles to help the student get the concept. I have a great deal of patience and believe that everyone can learn. I enjoy the way someone looks after they have understood and mastered an idea.
I tutored all subjects - especially in Math all through High School. I also tutored in college. I have strong skills in Math - all levels - but I especially enjoy algebra. I have two children and I basically taught my oldest son math, since he was a different kind of learner than the way they teach at school. He is a very kinesthetic type learner and needs to see, feel and touch to understand the concepts - so I used a lot of tools to help him. I can tutor math and science exceptionally well and other subjects for the younger levels.

I have always looked at teaching as a learning process for which the objective is not only learning for students but also learning for the teacher. A great teacher is one helps the students see how these theories can be at least partially verified through life experience. I have often felt that the ultimate purpose of education should not be a mere accumulation of knowledge. Therefore, as a teacher, I believe my job has several aspects: teach students how to think instead of what to think. teach students how to process and digest as opposed to memorize, store, and display information.
