I am a patient person who is used to tutoring students as that is what homeschooling is. I believe in learning by doing, experiential education. Many students think that they can't do something that is hard, but when it is broken down into small pieces, they find that it is not as difficult as they thought. You can preach all you want to children, but if you don't teach, there will be no learning. I believe that children will learn from someone they trust to talk to and from someone who they trust to give them the correct answers to their questions. I enjoy being that person. I like being the person who will sit next to them, talk to them, and help them out. I do not want to be the person across from them speaking without any word from my students. I love teaching. I always get well prepared before I sit down with someone. A couple of hours of preparation beforehand can make the difference between a tedious, unproductive experience and one that encourages the student and makes the excited about learning. I try to help with sticking points and not to lecture. I have discovered that people tend to remember answer to their questions and if I try to explain a deeper meaning it will only bore them and make them less interested.

Both of my parents were teachers and I find myself sharing my knowledge with anyone who seems to need it.
