A Little Bit About Me...

I've tutored kids within the inner cities of Atlanta, through a program called Emory reads. As a tutor I was responsible for helping them with their homework which included all subjects. I've also served as a teacher's aid, my responsibility was to ensure that the kids paid attention and address any problems in understanding that came up during the lesson.
I use a lot of repetition and the asking of questions to ensure that students are learning concepts. I also try to give them analogies to help them remember things. I love working with children, as the oldest in a big family, I have often served as caretaker while my father is at work. I currently have an 8 year old younger brother who I'm working with as well as one in his Sophomore year of High school. I'm helping him with algebra and pre-calc.

I believe I have a talent for taking a complex subject, and simplifying it in such a way that anyone can understand it. That is how I was able to successfully tutor many fellow students since high school. It is also how I managed to do well enough myself in science classes.
While working for Professor Weiss at the Pennsylvania State University as an undergraduate researcher for four years, I gained experience in scanning tunneling microscopy, self-assembled monolayers, molecular electronics, and nanotechnology generally. I independently designed and carried out experiments relating to thermodynamics, scanning tunneling microscopy, and self-assembled monolayers. To me chemistry has always been an exciting but often misunderstood science. The average person doesn't realize how much chemistry is around them and how chemistry is a fundamenal part of nature. I believe that relating chemistry to our everyday lives can be fundamental to having a better appreciation of the science. Getting the student recognize this can elp to instill a greater desire to master the subject. PC's have gone from a curiosity to now be a neccessity. Although software packages keep getting larger, they tend to operate in the same manner. Once a new user ovecomes any fear of computers, they can recognize the power of a computer which can open new worlds to them, especially throug using the Internet.
