Dear Student, Hi. I am a math & statistics tutor and have been tutoring these two and other subjects for last 20 years. I did masters in Math from Lucknow University India in 1983 and then again another Masters from Canada ( University of Western Ontario ) in Statistics 1n 1989. My comments on tutoring Calculus I : I completed AP Calculus BC in high school and received a score of 5 on the AP Examination for that subject.

I try to work with students to find connections between different aspects of the material that we're working on as well as to find connections to other subjects. I find that by relating specific topics to broader perspectives on a subject as well as related subjects, the student can gain a greater appreciation for the coherence and importance of a particular subject area.
I have experience working with students who are advanced and seeking supplementary tutoring as well as with students who are having difficulty with a subject. I have tutored mathematics as well as chemistry, biology, physics, and other subjects. I have tutored students from a range of ages and I worked with my first student over four years ago while I was in college.

My comments on tutoring Calculus I : Calculus: Everything is slopes! This is where math becomes Serious with a capital S, and often the trouble with Calculus is prior knowledge gaps. Generally for Calc students, I function more as a study-buddy, letting the student guide the process and assisting more in the leaps of logic between the arithmetic, algebra, trig, and other prior coursework.

I prefer personal and small group teaching, but I can also do online tutoring with Webex. I like to get to know my students and their goals. I can help students set those goals, make plans, and achieve. I have lots of experience creating curriculum materials and lessons, and I try to find a real-life application to each lesson.
My career path has winded around quite a bit but always focuses on computer science and math education. Calculus I is one of my top subjects!

I use strategic questions to help guide students to the right answer without giving the answer directly to them. This allows the student to develop their own sense of logic when approaching problems so that when test time comes, they will be able to ask themselves questions similar to what I ask during tutoring sessions and help figure out the answer step by step. My style of tutoring will help students develop their logic and problem solving skills, so that even if a new type of problem is presented, they can use the methods they have learned to break the problem into easier portions and figure out how to solve it.
