My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Was captain for 3 years in high school of National Oceans Science Bowl which is an academic competition in Oceanography which encompasses Marine Biology

I prefer one on one tutoring so I can adjust how I tutor to each students needs, but I have also done group tutoring before. All in all, I personally want to work in whatever environment will help the student learn most effectively.
Tutored many students during high school and I am currently a 1st year Chemical Engineering student at University of California, Berkeley. In high school, I tutored AP Chemistry, many levels of math, and many other science courses often. I also worked with younger students in middle school on many of the general subjects.

My teaching style is a hands on "learn by doing" approach. I believe that kids learn when they are fully engaged by using all of their senses to learn a subject matter, not just a learn by memorizing facts approach.

highly motivated German student-teacher

I am very motivated. I will give my best in tutoring.
I am a German student for biology and chemistry and want to become a teacher. I have done my middle examinations here in Germany which are comparable to a Bachelor Degree. I have helped several pupils to get better marks at school here in Germany - in English and Mathmatics. I have done several internships I had to do at schools in Germany. My best experience was when I did two chemistry lessons on two days at a class in its last year at a German college (German word: Gymnasium) - on the second day (after my lesson of the first day) five pupils from other courses wanted to join my lesson - in their free period! Voluntary! The other pupils most have told them something positive about me! I was very surprized and happy.

I am a huge advocate for the theory of multiple intelligences. I believe every child is capable, its just a matter of figuring out how they process information. Academic success is just one measure of growth, but whole learning is what I consider true success and I believe when the whole child is taught that academic success will invariably follow. I am Queen Patience and Queen enthusiasm. It's almost impossible not to get excited and energized when I'm around and involved. Most importantly, I teach people more than a subject, I teach them how to learn, and that is what a lifetime of success needs.
Having been reading since I was two it was a natural progression of events that, despite my dyslexia, I completed my BA in English Literature and thereby am intimately acquainted with all of the generas, nuances, and demands that true literacy requires. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children and I am a very detailed individual who likes to learn things step by step, this prompts me to teach in the same manner. I am a patient person and am not easily annoyed. I beleive in teaching and trying to help others succeed.

I have been tutoring math and sciences since I have been a senior in college. Most recently I have worked tutoring math and science as a personal tutor in the LA area. I have also taught Biology and Earth sciences at East High School in Salt Lake City, UT for a year, and 2 years at New Community Jewish High School in West Hills, CA teaching anatomy and physiology and Chemistry.
I teach hands-on with many demonstrations and hands-on activities. I have been told by some of my past students that I made science fun for them and that science used to be their worst subject, but with me as their teacher they found it to be their favorite subject.

I am a 'relaxed' teacher, but maintain - or try to maintain - a good study pace. The individual I may be tutoring may require different approaches to try and learn the material at-hand; however, I have always found that with a positive attitude and a constructive approach to any learning 'issue' the solution is normally found between both the student and the tutor (as to the best study method works for the individual at-hand).
As an undergraduate student at the University of California Santa Barbara I found and nurtured a love to pass-on learned experiences to others. The program I was heavily involved with was named MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement). Being an engineer, I tutored students at different High Schools and found great pleasure in seeing how other kid's faces could 'sparkle,' when they found-out that they could solve problems which they may have no ... read more

As a graduate of Whittier College, I have received an education unlike many. Through the 4-year liberal arts program at Whittier, I studied a vast array of subjects ranging from Math and Spanish to Business and Chemistry. Through this program, I have grasped extensive knowledge not only in these subjects, but how they can be applied to one another in real life situations. Throughout my time at Whittier College, I also took a multitude of “writing intensive” courses, geared towards the advancement of each individual’s writing and grammar skills in a variety of subjects. I have previously tutored students ages 4-16 in science (ecology, biology, physics, chemistry), math and English.
Throughout the last 7 years, I have instructed children and teens in a variety of subjects. As a junior lifeguard instructor, I taught important skills such as first aid and CPR; it was here that I f ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My hope is to provide students with the same attention, patience, and care that some professors have been able to provide me. I have seen professors that teach effectively, but I have also seen how some teachers can be horrible due to selfish, impatient behavior. My experiences as a TA, teaching non-biology majors how to think like a biologist, can be a difficult task. It often deals with teaching students material that they do not think is important. A crucial aspect of teaching is not only adapting to the student's learning style, but also helping the student understand the value of learning.
Through my experiences at UCLA, I developed the desire to impact those around me through teaching. My ultimate goal is to become a professor so that I can give back to people just as previous professors have impacted me. Through my BS in Biology at UCLA and my current MS at CSUF, I und ... read more

Pursuing a competitive major at a prestigious research institution required dedication, responsibility and excellence. These developed attributes lead me to graduate with a BS with honors and distinction in the major. Graduating with these accolades displays my extended knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology and high proficiency in other classes taken at the university ranging from cultural diversity lectures to English grammar. I have respected my education and worked hard and shared my passion for learning for the past 6 years tutoring in algebra, high school English, geometry, calculus, biochemistry and general biology.
