I have over fifteen years of combined experience teaching high school English, ESL, TOEFL and GED exam preparation as well as extensive experience tutoring and giving individual and group English lessons. I currently teach literature at a private secondary and high school and I coordinate and teach classes in a specialized ESL program that I founded. My previous experience includes teaching high school English for over ten years and working as a faculty member in the Adult Basic Education department at a state university.

In teaching I am basically a generalist and humanist. My background is in mathematics and the sciences, but with a solid foundation in the humanities. Practically, I have never stopped learning something new and in addition to my formal credential I have done university course work in languages, forestry, animal husbandry, and sports training. Ideally, teaching styles should be individually tailored to the student's needs. The one-on-one environment of tutoring offers an exceptional opportunity to do this! The learning styles of students vary widely; however, I believe all students respond to an approach which includes kindness, respect, persistence, and the acceptance of the student as an individual. I believe in encouraging students to ask questions, and showing them where to find the answers.
