This provides the students with the opportunity to think about the problem on their own, to determine their own strategy. During the discussion, they also have the advantage of seeing other ways of approaching the problem. When the problem proves too challenging, I usually give them small step by step hints and direct them to the answer. As a high school student, I excelled at my schoolwork. I was retained as a tutor for middle school students in math and science subjects. When I entered college, my major in engineering has required that I take a lot of upper level math and science courses. These rigorous courses have strengthened my math and science skills. I am very well versed from algebra all the way to Calculus two.
I love helping people. I feel that a student can always teach a student better than a teacher. Their teaching style is a lot forgiving and the student is less intimidated knowing that someone else has been where he/she is currently.
