My comments on tutoring World History : Specialty in Eastern Roman empire and Church History

I allow my teaching style to mold itself to each individual student, finding methods of communicating the information that best suit the learning style of my student. I favor a holistic approach to learning, believing that education should be of the whole person. If a student learns how a skill in his tutoring session can be applied in real life, then his or her perception of the subject may fundamentally improve.
I am a graduate of Tennessee Temple University, with experience tutoring at Tennessee Temple University, as well as University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, in various topics, including biodiversity, mathematics (up to pre-calculus), history, and American Sign Language. I continue to study in my personal time as many topics as possible, with the belief that a good tutor is firstly a good student.

My comments on tutoring World History : Aside from being my long time passion, I minored in History at the University of Florida. I have been tutoring both World and American History for five years.

I am a firm believer that different people learn in different ways. Therefore, while I teach by my own set of principles I am always seeking feedback on how better to accommodate the manners in which criteria can be better understood.
Prior to serving in the United States Army, I was a successful entrepreneur in NJ. I graduated Magna Cum Laude for Political Science, earned my certification in International Relations and minored in Classics. I headed multiple study groups for my peers upon their request and I have a great ability to explain very complex theory in very easy to understand terms. I know how to word something multiple ways so that if you are not understanding it one way I can easily try something different. I do not over complicate anything. I try to simplify as much as possible then build from there.

I consider myself an empathetic and patient teacher of children and young adults. I believe that all children can learn and that it is incumbent upon the educator to strive to find what motivates the individual to achieve greater heights. To this end, the teacher must be a communicator who appreciates the importance of meeting the pupil wherever he is academically and help him to better understand his potential.
As a Substance Abuse Program Case Manager, I conducted psycho-educational group sessions related to addiction/recovery issues and worked in a juvenile’s detention/commitment program. In adult corrections, I facilitated Addiction Treatment Counseling and Life Skills groups. When I worked in the foster care system, I taught Independent Living Skills to youth who were transitioning out of the system. A Little Bit About Me...

I decided at the age of 38 to attend college and earn my BA of Education degree. I have worked with and coached young people most of my life on a volunteer basis. Teaching has always been one of my passions. I have worked with students with learning disabilities in my eleven years of teaching. I have taught all the core subjects from grades 3-12. My favorite subject to teach/tutor is math. I enjoy seeing my students progress in their learning.
I like to challenge my students to reach their potential. I realize there is a fine line between challenging and frustrating my students. I like for my students to figure out math problems on their own as much as possible. My teaching style is to model new material, do guided practice, and independent practice. Hopefully by the time they finish this process they have mastered the particular lesson.

However, with hard work, resilience, constant effort and the help of good individuals, I have been able to succeed in the United States. During my undergraduate education, I graduated with a quadruple major from Ouachita Baptist University I have tutored since high school through undergrad as a volunteer. My last two years, I formally taught spanish in a program which emulates a high school setting in the summer and a weekend tutoring during their school semester.

A Little Bit About Me...

In my doctoral program, I am specializing in working with students with special needs and disabilities. Therefore, I strongly believe that every child can learn, but I realize that different children learn in different ways. I have learned and have experience implementing strategies and techniques to enable children to learn. I am very patient, easy going, and considerate, and my goal is to always provide children with the best education possible.
I first began my love of teaching and tutoring children when I was a senior in high school. As the president of my school's National Honor Society, I began a tutoring program that enabled elementary and middle school students to be tutored by high school students. I continued to volunteer and tutor students while I earned my BS in Human and Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University. I am furthering my interest in education ... read more
