I believe in Constructivism, whereby rudimentary skills are continually built upon; a combination of rote learning and discovery-based learning built upon a mastery of previously-learned concepts, plus testing in real-world scenarios to activate within the student the ability to apply learning through analysis and thought coupled with experimentation.
As one who holds a Bachelor's and Master's in the arts, I believe in the power of exploratory learning. I am very personable and easy to get along with. My teaching style is relational. I think that students learn best when they are allowed to explore and find the tools that really work for them, I am happy to help students learn in this way and am very patient. I have high standards and believe in hard work and the pursuit of excellence.
I personally designed my undergraduate degree. I believe this shows the value I place on personal initiative in education. I have experience in teaching reading and writing to elementary school students. I also have experience tutoring my peers in reading, writing, art and literature. In my spare time I write fiction and creative non-fiction for a writer's group.
