I acquired a Bachelors of Science in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry from the University of MN, Duluth. I also have a broad math and physics background, and have a great enthusiasm for both.

Teaching is a very important part of learning; it is an ongoing process that is active and not static. My style of teaching is less conventional than most at a large university due to my liberal arts undergraduate education. I think that many students learn different ways and it is important to let the learner control the learning process. As an instructor you provide guidance and an outline for success, but that outline should be adapted to the individual. I have taken more than the amount of credits I need to graduate with a BA in mathematics from Luther College. I have minors in physics and chemistry. I have always enjoyed math. I have assisted an elementary school teacher in tutoring mathematics. I tend to teach things in a visual way. Drawing pictures, diagrams and using visual aides are the best ways I have witnessed to teach kids. I also think a structured reward system is HUGE in motivating kids to succeed. You need to find out what motivates your kid (money, toys, etc) and set up a system where he/she can earn these rewards through academic success.
I am currently a medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth. Before I started medical school I worked as a tutor for six years with two teenage boys with autism. Under the six years of my tutoring, both of these "disabled" kids were completely mainstreamed and even taking some AP and challenge classes. There is no better feeling than the feeling you get when a student has that light bulb go off and they finally catch on to a concept.
