A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is to individualize instruction for each child. I believe that every child has their own way of learning and I would teach in a way so that they could be successful. I teach one concept at a time, building on each concept as they master it. I have a style that is very positive and encouraging so as to keep the student motivated. I celebrate even the smallest of successes. I believe that every child can turn a weakness into a strength given the right guidance.
I have been a Special Education Assistant for the past 12 years. I assist the classroom teacher with with everything from paperwork to teaching lessons. I have also taught middle school math for 5 years during the summer on an emergecy credential. I have also tutored students ranging from middle school to high school ages for the past 5 years. My initial experience was as a 2nd grade teacher in the Milwaukee Public Schools.(6years) I then moved to Ohio where I taught for 4 years as a Learning and Behavior Disordered teacher. I attended Kent State University and procured a Masters in Counseling for the Elementary Children. I taught Creative Dance in the Tucson, Arizona Pre-Schools (8 of them) for several years and then moved tom Reno, Nv where I worked as a Kindergarten teacher for one year and then served as teacher in the first, second, third, and fourth grades for a total of 11 years.

I believe that our children hold the future of our world in their hands and hearts and for this reason I have a deep desire to assist them in learning all of their subjects as well as they can. My approach is democratic in that I ask the child for his/her input on what they like to study and learn too. Finding out a childs loves is important for a teacher. An example is: Going to the library to find books for students to read because it is something they enjoy as well as doing their assigned class work. I love to help one-on-one! I have three graduate degrees with one in the field of teaching. I have taught and tutored learners from nursery school up through the college level. Originally, I majored in special education and especially love working with children.
