Versatile Hands-on Tutor for all Age ranges

Throughout my academic career, I have done in-class tutoring in exchange for credit. I have also helped my family members, neighbors, and friends to study, complete homework, and even do reports. My range of subjects is very versatile, anything from Oceanography, to Intercultural Communications, to Culinary Arts, and even 3D sculpture and design. Of course outside of these elective type courses, I have a 3.7 GPA in my general education, including Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. I attended a charter high school, where we took outside the box classes that met the state regulations. I was taking botany and forensics for science, and African American and Native American history classes. This gave me and opportunity to think outside the box, and become more well rounded. More About This Tutor...

As a Biology student at both Saddleback and the ultra competitive UCLA, I was able to achieve high marks in all of the core cirriculum. Subjects I am very familar with are physics, chemistry, math up to 1st semester calculus, biology and biochem.I also recieved an A in every english class I have ever attended. I have experience tutoring at Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo Ca., mostly in math.
I enjoy working with kids and teaching the things that I have learned. I am confident that I can make concepts as simple as possible, so people who usually have trouble understanding ideas in math and science may have a breakthough. Coming from a very competitive school like UCLA I have acquired skills in test taking which are very valuable and I would like to pass these on to prospective college students.

Math has always been an achievement of mine. I went to school and started out for an engineering degree, completing all the math including hard calculus. When I got to the university level I thought a business degree would be better as it is used in all types of businesses. So on top of taking hard calc, I took business calc, accounting, finance, and economics classes which all focus on math.
I have no real teaching style as I have never really taught anyone. I have always helped friends out while we were in school together and I would just have to figure out at what level of knowledge they were having a hard time understanding and start to help them understand what was going on from that point on.

A Little Bit About Me...

While a student, I was a teachers assistant in a chemistry lab at my college. During school, I spent numerous hours studying with large groups of students. Together we practiced methods for teaching our knowledge, this way everyone in the group understood the material.
I like to use the book as an outline of the material to be taught. Visual aids are very important to me. I believe pictures are worth a thousand words. I am very patient and great with communicating ideas to others.

A Little Bit About Me...

Mathematics is a field that extends beyond a series of procedures as it taught far too widely these days. My stress is on conceptual understanding, as it is the key to understanding the subject. Even moreso than the procedures that we have been accustomed to viewing as being the core of Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus, conceputal underpinnings are what the make the subject meaningful.
I am a former mathematics teacher who is interested in returning to the profession. I have both tutored and taught the subject in the past, and have test scores that demonstrate my current proficiency. Recently, I finished a "refresher" graduate-level course at UNR, and am independently reading an assortment of literature from NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) and others.

More About This Tutor...

I started college as a math major with a concentration in finite math. My goal was to work for a company using both my mathematics and computer programming skills. In my junior year of college, I realized that ever since high school I had enjoyed helping my friends with their math as much as I enjoyed taking math classes. I switched to the teaching option at that time. Although I have taught almost every level of math from junior high to high school, I have focused on algebra and geometry for the past 20 years. I currently teach remedial algebra, geometry, and advanced geometry.
I have been fortunate to teach students at both ends of the learning spectrum. Four years ago, I decided to teach the remedial algebra courses at our high school. In doing so, I have built my repertoire of strategies to teach algebra concepts. I feel that my passion for the study of geometry combine ... read more
